if you want to get real serious check out Beare Custom Rifles. i was going to get him to build a stock for me but he couldnt do it in time (laminated). the coke can smelting with a vacume cleaner will work as my friend uses a similar process to cast ducati parts and brass carbies etc etc. and that way you wouldnt need a mill just hand tools and prob a die grinder. p.s check out bruces custom scope rings.

Quick wrote:Littlebang, are you going to stick to the KISS princeple?? Btw, a solid billit of 6061 T6 is not cheap from what I recall, If you can get it at a good price let me know, the old man will proberly buy 5m worth for another gyro project.
Try Capral Aluminium in Perth...Awesome to deal with and great prices...They supply most of the businesses and hobbyists in the region...best to cut out the middle man but still quite expensive as you know.
Otherwise, the KISS principle will be employed for some of the new ideas I have but the finished product "should" be very pleasing to the eye.

These are some serious stocks but I am looking to have something much more adjustable to accommodate the many varied physical characteristics of individuals in the shooting population..
Otherwise, I will be picking the mill up at the start of June...I will get a few of the tools needed at same time but will purchase more as tasks require. (Must get around to finishing the bench to put it on). Oh...and the wife's patio...couple of jobs around the house will keep me honest...
Have settled on a HM-45 mill and will eventually convert it to CNC during some of the many hours tucked away in the garage away from the trouble and strife.
1st job will be to rebed one of my rifles utilising some of the ideas that will be used in the alloy stock.
Regards
Rob A

Aluminium
Hi I have bought it to make stocks myself but will sell it to anyone.
It is 6061.
This is an all rounder alloy that will allow Anodising after you have finished machining it.
As for price
Watch this space I will find out how much it cost me and get bak to you.
Thanks
Benn

Well its actually 6106 T6 In 3 meter lengths but will cut into smaller amounts.
Very good weldability and corrosion resistance. Extrusion alloy that gives good
combination of mechanical properties.
Standard condition of supply - Temper T6

1st Job
My 1st real play with the mill was to make a new bedding block for my .223 and I am satisfied with the results.
No devcon or other bedding materials used and not a v block setup and great groups at the range just a few hours ago.
Now I can move on to bigger and better things.....after I do a couple of little jobs for the trouble and strife.....best keep her happy.
