Bloody 'puter played up last night so no posts from me.
The Shattered Shooters Shelter Shed did brisk business last night as we acknowledged a fine win in Open by Rod Davies (405-27), 4 points clear of myself in 2nd(401-26) saved by X's from Spencer Dunstall (401-14)who was 3rd.
Mark Fairbairn just one point back (400-27) was 4th, and Ben Ferrara (398-19) was 5th .
It was a very hard day at the office, with some wildly absurd wind changes for most of the day. Spencer Dunstall was the last to shoot in F Open, and drew the far Right hand lane, shooting right beside the trees and flags . He had a significant peanut gallery of interested onlookers, and had some reasonable conditions as he gave a superb display with his little 6mm Dasher at 800 meters. Rod, Mark, Ben and myself were all shooting 7mm's.
Tradition is a very important thing in shooting sports as we all know, so we spent some hours last night (or was it thismorning ??) pointing out to Roderick that there is apparently a strong tradition at Queens Prize events that "whomever wins the Lead Up shall crash and burn in the Queens".
We live in hope !! With a 7mm Benchmark barrel up for grabs in the Grand Agg, I don't think Rod will throw any points away !
Quite a few new faces in town last night, here for the main event, so I think it's guaranteed to be another fascinating Day 1 of a Queens, here in Canberra.

Thanks Tony, and well done to Rod, yourself and Spencer.
Yes quite a few F-Open Rolph winners have crashed and burned in the Queens. But the scarey thing for those of you who don't go by the name of Roderick, is that after both of his Rolph wins, he went on to win the Queens

! But my own experience backs up your theory (sort of). My only win at Canberra was after coming LAST in the Rolph

.
Keep the reports coming Tony - much appreciated. And have a good one in the Queens.

The challenge is now set Tony, I dropped 6 at 300 in our queens and came second albeit with a few less shooters, but mate you have nothing to lose now. And make sure you always take extra rounds to the firing line with you!

500 conditions were pretty switchy ....that's my only excuse.
Back at 600 now and actually pretty steady 3-5 mph from the left, with drops offs to virtually still.
Spencer is still shooting his 6 Dasher I think, as his 7mm not ready. I will check after I shoot.

Tony, thanks for all the updates, what a great job and sorry to see your dropped points. I'm immune to the gut wrenching feeling of them now.
What an AMAZING level of competition. This games getting really hard these days with all the great shooters, technology and gear.
As Mark F said to me not long ago theres 7 places drop with each bullet!................ its kind of a "glass half empty" mentality, but its true................ I think I was on my way to the mound when he said it
Congrats to Steve and Jim shooting F-std. They are amazing scores compared to the higher performing calibres of F-Open.
