See accurate shooter has an article on a $40 wind meter that plugs into your iphone, apparently good as a kestrel

Good thing with Kestrel is they are tough. Use them in the fire service and if you buy one you will have it forever... Unless you use it in Trentham where issue was trying to hold on to the darn thing to stop it blowing away!!

I got one a couple years back off eBay. Wasn’t expensive and doesn’t plug in to your phone but it works well has humidity and all sorts of stuff, does all I need.
