I am after some information from a broad base of 6mm BR Shooters - to inform a discussion paper. For those of you that shoot 6 BR, if you could provide the following information I would be grateful:
Twist and length of barrel Projectile Manufacturer and weight Optimum velocity
The standard load for 6BRs seems to be around 30.0gns of 2208, while a few are now preferring around 29.0gns of 2206H behind 103-107gn bullets. CCI BR4 primers seem to work best in the little BR case as well. 8" twist would be the most versatile twist as you can use 103-107gn bullets, or go lighter if you want. If you go for a 1/4" diameter straight 30" long barrel, then after a few thousand rounds, you can cut it back to 28" and go again. You will most likely be looking at around 2830fps with 103 Copperheads or 107 Sierras at around .010" jump.
Hi Piers, I have had great success with the 6BR using the following, 8 twist 4 groove Shilen barrel .266 neck No#7 HV profile 29" long. Lapua brass cut to suit. Either Remington 7 1/2 benchrest or Fed 210 GMM primers. 29.5 to 31.5 gns of Reloder 15 (29.5 being the best giving approx 2830 ish fps). I have tried 2208, for what ever reason i have always had lower ES with RL15 and slightly better groups. Ken Melgards 103 Copperheads have been outstanding and insanely accurate to say the least (these would be my first pick). Nothing else has come close to these in this barrel. The 105 Scenar L's have been good as well, just not like the KM 103's. The 6BR is by far the easiest cartridge i have ever had to tune and the most accurate! Hope this helps, John.
