QRA Queens

Post by AlanF »

The Leadup is all over. Congratulations to the winners - Nick Williamson in F-Std and David MacNamara in F-Open. Looks like some got caught bigtime at the longs today - wind presumably?

Can anyone who is there give some more info e.g. F-Open calibres plus any malicious gossip???

Just had a call from Rod Mahon. Conditions were reasonable up to part way through the 2nd 600, then it cut up rough. Looking at the TR scores, you can see how there's a few good scores, but also how some big names got slaughtered. Anyway, things look to be very close in F-A and F-Open. At the end of the day Bob Ped has about 6 others within 2 points of him, and Mark Fairbairn has 3 others within 2 points. Tomorrow is predicted to be fine, mild, light to moderate westerlies, so scores should improve.

Thanks to Rod Davies, here are some F-Open calibres :

Mark Fairbairn 22BR/6XC/7mm-08
Andrew Pearce 6 Dasher/284
Rod Davies 6x47/284
David MacNamara 284 Shehane
Shirlene Towers 22BR/6BRX
Kel Bell 6x47/6.5-284(?)
Rod Mahon 6 Dasher/284 Shehane
Meichelle Knudson 6BR
Gary Towers 22BR/6BRX
Barry Lewis 284 Shehane
John Tracey 284
Chris Bell 6.5-284
Karl Bell 6x47/6.5-284
Brent Knudsen 6BR(?)
Tony Beardmore (?)
Richard Ashton 308

Good luck to all tomorrow.

Came good at last. Nothing between F/O and F/S, will be interesting the next two days as the ranges increase.

Yes that's interesting about today's agg.

1. FSA 233.21
2. FO 233.19
3. FSA 233.18
4. FO 232.16
5. FO 232.14
6. FSA 232.13
7. FSB 232.13
8. FSB 232.12

I suspect that things will be a bit more predictable tomorrow.

And Congrats to the winners in standard, Daryl Barlow In B and Rob Halloran in A, I doubt Daryl will be a B grader for much longer with that impressive effort which sort of takes away some of the glam for the A graders! Perhaps graded wrongly or a come from nowhere winner... No disrespect meant, I dont know the guy and he is obviously a very good shooter.

Should Daryl get the A grade badge or take the B grade badge? I think in TR the best score regardless of grade gets the top honour, could be wrong, anyone care to enlighten me?

They haven't the latest version on the QRA website yet as I updated for a shoot the week before the Queens carnival started when they were up to their keesters in entries. Even so, his average was still just 90% from the three prize meetings he has attended since we started grading here in Queensland. (we were able to backdate to August 2010).

Congratulations to Andrew Pearce, Rob Halloran and Daryl "Bandit" Barlow  .

Wow! The Belmont 1000yds is getting a reputation for extreme conditions! Those scores are just about as bad as the share market! Looking at the 1000yd scores at last year's Nationals, they were worse than this, but not by much.

Clearly the winner of A Grade will get the A grade No 1 badge etc. same as in TR. The top honour in TR is the chair ride, and the top honour in the F-Classes is to march in the procession - that's how the QRA did it last year. In the situation that has happened in F-Std this year, I've never seen a rule, so I guess its entirely up to the organisers to decide.

Big ups to Andrew (The Quiet Achiever)Pearce, Rob Halloran and Darryl Barlow. Overall it was a good shoot with some occaisional interesting wind conditions. #-o
As mentioned, the notorious Belmont 1000yd conditions struck again sending some people tumbling  . Even Rob Halleron got spanked in a particuly bad period during the 1000yd range but still had enough points to take the win in F std A grade. =D>
Darryl Barlow is a new shooter who is sure picking things up very quickly, making the most of the conditions he shot in. David MacNamara in F Open is another new shooter who will be one to watch out for in the future. If it wasnt for some gun problems developing during the shoot, he would have been a real contender for the win.
As usual, the Belmont range was top class, great facilities. It will be good to see how things go at the World Palma Championships at Belmont in 2 months time.

Hi, this is my first post on ozfclass.
Just got back to Cairns after the shoot - It certainly was great to meet everyone down in Brisbane and a great bunch. Very friendly and welcoming.
Well done to all mentioned above.

I would like to make particular note on "Rowdy's" (Andrew Pearce) performance at 1000 - very impressive to watch. He just got better and better all week and peaked at the end in very difficult conditions like a true champion. Well done mate.
A great tussle in both open and standard and hopefully some friendships formed on the way.

Thank you to those for your kind remarks and congratulations to the other winners. It was a close thing with Rod going into the final day. I was fortunate at the 1000yds to have a a marker who stayed with me for the 3 mins or so it took to get my stage away.
As the former captain of Cairns Rifle Club, it was pleasing to see past and
present members filled the first 3 positions in FO with David McNamara also taking out the Duncan.
Marty Lobert, Rod Davies & myself all started our FO careers around the same time in Cairns. We now all have Queens wins (although I have some cathing up to do!) Wangetti range must have taught us something :)
Good shooting to all.

Congratulations to the F OPen and F Std Winners. Well done!

I would also like to congratulate Gray Robertson on his Queens win. Gray is from our club, and we are all very proud of him. :D
