Looking forward to fine weather and a great day's shooting.

I'm shooting F-Open this year. Hopefully the numbers continue to grow. Certainly healthy competition at Lang Lang.

Cheers.

Nice weather, very friendly atmosphere, and another F-Class 60.10 \:D/ =D> . Ritchie Neil shooting his 308 in F-Std made the most of the good conditions today at 300yds. To his credit he had to endure an extremely slow newby marker - I was on the mound beside him waiting to shoot and I reckon his shoot took at least 15 minutes, of which 90% was waiting either for the target to go down or to come back up. He had to wait about 2 minutes for his 10th business shot to be marked, and then it finally emerged smack bang in the middle like all the others. One of the best shoots I've had the pleasure of watching. Thanks to Helen Davies, we can expect the full results of the prize meeting to be on the VRA website early next week.

Well supported event by the F-Class shooters, out numbering T/R, 32 to 28.

Is this a common occurrence at O.P.M’s in Victoria?

That situation is becoming more and more prevalent.

F Class to TR ratio's

Post by bartman007 »

So John, do you think that there will be a day when the person getting Chaired in at the Queens will be a F Class shooter?

After all, if it is based on numbers then we will soon out number TR.

Heaven forbid, a F Class shooter being chaired :-) Perish the day, that will be the end of our sport as we know it ;-)

It's OK, the TR winner can simply sit amongst the other shooters and be in awe of the skill of the F Class shooter. After all, isn't it more skillful to keep your shots in the Center Bull ;-)

Now to wait for the flack :-)

How about widening the chair to a 2 seater?

I suppose while there is similar numbers, I'd be happy to share a chair.

But I think we need to look at how it is addressed now, and apply those same "rules" to how we should address it when the numbers are reversed :-)

After all tradition is tradition, and we need to keep it fair.

Seriously, with the current trend in the age of shooters, it might be wise from the safety point of view to come up with an alternative to the lofted chair ride e.g. the winners just march side by side, and sit side by side during the presentation.

Whilst there seems a great turnout of F class to local clubs and OPM's. Queens numbers still seem down. We need to encourage more participation at the next level.

TO BE FAIR

Post by Range Rector »

Hey bartman,
Yeap you are on the right track.
Really to be fair FA & FO winners should be treated with the same esteem and have equal shares in prizes and trophies as the TR winners.
Also to be fair the same number of grades should exist in F Class too, A, B & C, as well as the number of runner-up places.
This sort of change would encourage larger turn-ups to the Queens & Club Prize Meetings.
Lang Lang had a great turn-up and the hole day went along very smoothly, as usual.

I know that I will have no friends to be made here, but a reality check is sometimes needed

There is a good reason that F class has a larger turnout in Gippsland, and that is that the older shooters who are running the local clubs are simply dumbing down the younger shooters. Every new person who shows upto one off our ranges is handed a scoped rifle because it is easier to get a good score from the start. I am not sure if this is so that the older more experienced shooters can stay on top of the pack by using the skills that they gained in TR.

No longer is it seen as good to have to learn a skill by having to work at it, every time a TR shooter has a bad day it is stated that it is about time to join FS. A bad TR score is more enjoyable than a good FS one.

You can not buy a good TR score it has to be earned.

I just looked at the PRESIDENTS results with the winning TR score off 299.41, and FS as 336.21.

That TR score would equate to a 340.? FS score, I assume that both were shot in the same conditions. Only one was shoot off their elbows and the other with a rest, I know who I am more amazed by.

As for trophies etc, they should be issued by the number off competitors in each comp. As for the chairing in, I see this as a TR thing and FS should come up with their version.

If you want to encourage new members it is much smarter to hand them a scoped 223 or 6br to start. They will enjoy the experience and want more. Introduce them to tr over time. It is much harder artform and requires training to even start.
