I hear that Berger has some new bullets in the pipeline.
Among others I thought that these would be of some interest here.
A 270 cal 170 gr and a 7mm 195 gr.

He also asked me to tell you, "These bullets are not going to be available for a while so they should not call the local Berger reseller until they hear about their actual release." I like the proposed new .375 cal pill myself. It would make the markers job "interesting" if a few of them went slam bam into the x ring at a grand!
Would be interesting as they are larger than the caliber permitted.

I think that probably is the case, but would depend on velocities and the barrel of course. My attitude to these high BC projectiles is changing - I won't be running them at anything like the accepted "standard" velocity for target bullets of around 2950fps. To be honest, in my case this is mainly because of brass life problems, but there are many other benefits which come from lower velocity : less fouling, less throat erosion, less recoil, less powder use, less barrel heat etc. The ONLY advantage of using these long high BC bullets is to reduce wind drift, and if you do the ballistics calculations, they still do VERY well at lower velocities.
Here's some figures to illustrate the point. Most of my successful performances in F-Open have been with 6.5mm 142gn SMKs running at about 2950 fps. Wind-drift in a 10mph cross-wind at 1000yds for that was approx 66.5 inches. I now have pointed 7mm Berger 180 Hybrids running at only 2830fps, but 10mph 1000yd wind-drift is a much better 57.5 inches! I could hammer the 7mm up to 2950fps, but it would only reduce the drift by a further 4 inches - not worth all the problems it brings.

Yes we've done our homework on that. We're currently researching another issue - they don't have daylight saving up there. Ah I can hear you say, but we'll be up there in winter. Well that may be but we strongly suspect some sort of delayed effect.....
I definitely suspect that load you used in Sydney won't work up here Alan! Not only will the bullet not know what time to turn up at the target but it will be hot and bothered by the time it gets there! You better back it down 6 grains and seat it futher in. After all everything has to slow down up here. - Get with the pace or you will be left behind...
