Gday all , wondering if anyone can help? I recently purchased a savage ftr 12 , I am currently using 155 grain noslers , 2208 POWDER AND cci bench rest primers, I'm seating ten thou back off the lands and putting in 46.7 grns of 08, I have tried everything from 44.5 up to 47 grains , still not having much luck at the range, posting some fairly embarrassing scores, if any one can help me out it would be most appreciated. Have the scope checked to ensure it is answering all movements, and returning to zero.

Try another scope with a known reputation.
3rd
Try another projectile.

Agree with Barry here, those scopes are trouble. Tried one for the hell of it and even on a varmint rifle it wouldnt hold zero let alone adjust for ranges.

Try the NRAA 308 ammo with the sierra and HBC projectiles and see if they group in your gun- if your gun wont group it then it probably needs to see a gunsmith for a barrel inspection.

I would also try some other primers, BR's gave me terrible groups, I got my best reports using Federal GMM with 2208.

Different barrels like different things. Is the rifle after market bedded at all?

I also hear the Savage requires adequate bedding to perform well. As mentioned, eliminate the scope and barrel problems first, I don't exactly know what your version of "embarrassing" is, but a change in primer is not going to do much to solve a major accuracy problem.

Thanks for all the info, also what is a good weight of powder for this rifle, using 2208?

Hard to say- thats what load development is for. But anywhere from 45gr to about 46.2 would be my guess.
