Go FTR or F-Open?

Post by bshrestha01 »

Today, I missed out on getting my first ever 60 because I got the jitters in the last shot. I ended up with 59.3 @ 500 m in Anzac Range.

And this was not using my $2000 Savage with $1800 Nigthforce. I was using my $250 Omark (stil factory barrel) with $100 Zos Scope. And before anyone asks, I am not very good at reading wind. My second string was blown all over the place. I need more practice there and I think I got my F-Standard rifle and load.

So the question is: what do I do with my Savage? Make it a FTR or change barrels and go to F-Open? My thinking is go FTR as I won't have to spend too more. I have never shot FTR or F-Open and have absolutely no idea whatsoever about the F-Open. So I am looking for ideas, criticisms and advice.

My Savage shoots 168gn or 175gn Bergers well enough to be competitive in FO.

Personally,,I would stick with F standard at this stage, learn to shoot one rifle well, learn to read the wind, learn basic reloading, then go on from there.

In the meantime,,well done on a PB.

Cheers

Oh I forgot to mention, the trigger in my Savage is the stock AccuTrigger, which means as I keep shooting, the trigger spring turn around and goes back to the minimum weight or half kilo (approx). This is not a legal trigger weight for F-Standard but is legal for FTR or F-Open. And yes, I do my own reloading.
