Great tool to refine wind reading!!? - Go-Pro on a drone

Post by DenisA »

Alan, if you don't agree with me having posted this in another thread please delete this one.

I really wanted to share this footage with everyone. Watching the flags is incredible in terms of understanding wind movement through a certain area.

Click on the following YouTube link, set it to 1080p and let it buffer before you watch it. Awesome.

Wow Denis. Thanks for posting that. Gives me great insight into the range layout and discussions I have had with Tony. It would be great if we could post similar videos of our ranges to get some idea of what to expect when you get there in terms of micro climates, to try and predict wind flows and angles to the target from the mounds which will affect your setup. I hadn't clarified in this thread, but this video is of the North Arm Rifle Club prize meeting last weekend. The video was taken by club member David J.

Aaron brought to our attention the flags were pointing in all directions. It would be wonderful if Peter could post his wind reading program again to help people practice their skills in such conditions. I unfortunately lost my copy a few generations of hard disk failure ago. Peter, the people need it. David.

Speaking of new technology, I recently got a new Omega powder trickler and could not help connect with the principles of barrel tuning. The powder tickler utilizes a weight that slides backwards and forwards along its spout to alter the vibrations to distribute the desired number of kernels.

I also felt like pulling a few people’s leg with a recent link my old mate Herbie Mc sent me. It too works on the principle of vibration control. Some might be inspired to make their tuners to form a water jacket after seeing this one. Here’s the link.

On a serious note, I think I’m going to get rid of the wifi in the house after that one. It also sort of highlights what my brain surgeon said to me that he is seeing a lot of tumours he thinks are linked to mobile phones. I certainly used the old analogue mobile phone which was more powerful than the digital ones and consider myself to be one of the lucky ones.

So Denis,

I gather the 3 flags pointing at each other was when a willy willy went through that area. Otherwise quite a strange phenomenon.

Love the sky cam footage. I think we should all forget buying that new barrel, and purchase one of these toy's / tool's instead :-)

If you are going to Canberra, it might be good to get an aerial view of that place too.

Michael, the Go-Pro and drone belong to club member David J. He does read this forum and may or may not want to chime in.

I over complicate my shooting very well at the moment without needing this sensational little Doobie-Whacker. I'd probably finally lay down to shoot a detail after all my screwing around and realise that I'd forgotten to load ammo for the shoot.

.....................But I really do appreciate David's effort with the drone and camera.

You bet. Some creative videos of some ranges and shooting on You tube would be good I there are any budding camera men out there.
