Palma versus LR brass Revisited

Post by pgcpty »

I have recently carried out a comparative test of small rifle CCI Bench rest and CCI 450 Magnum small rifle in my 223Rem F Std rifle with the following results
..….......BR ..MAG
1……….. 2888 2917
2……….. 2891 2923
3……….. 2912 2927
4……….. 2913 2935
5……….. 2920 2941
6……….. 2920 2942
MV MAX 2920 2942
MV MIN. 2888 2917 GAIN
ES………. 32 ...25 ...22%
AVE... 2907 ..2931 .24 ..0.8%

Whereas the statistical base is small the exercise was conducted within an hour under good condition at 3 minute intervals between shots and the results are consistent with those found by other 223REM target shooters.

So my question is. wouldn't it be reasonable to expect a similar improvement using Lapua BR 308 Cases?

Before going out and buying 100 308 BR Lapua cases I would like to know if anyone else has tried this and measured a worthwhile improvement to ES/MV

Thanks

Peter

Plumbs7, Thanks for your response. Was hoping for some before and after responses to see the improvement users have experienced. Finding it very hard to find comparitive data on the Palma cases v's regular cases. What improvement did you measure on changing to Palma cases? What ES spread do you typically now get over 10 shots?

Back when I was shooting FS, I tried Palma brass because it was there. With CCI BR primers, I halved my ES & increased my velocity by 40 FPS using exactly the same load as I used in the standard cases with PMC Russian LR primers.

As Matt will tell you, this was not the norm, but in my case, I was using AR 2206, not 06H or 08 that most of the field were using.

Sorry I haven't done a direct test but low extreme spreads seem achievable . In saying that , there are a lot around using LR and doing well. I guess it all adds up. But no not a lot difference . It comes into its own in ftr with heavy pills and high pressures.

Thsnks Guys, Anybody measured the water capacity of each? Is the Palma case slightly less volume than the LR?
