Re: Abrasive cleaners and copper fouling

I’m interested to know peoples thoughts on which is the lesser evil, carbon or copper. Also if a barrel is picking up a little more copper besides making it a bit harder to clean what effect does this have on accuracy over the course of a normal days shooting (say 60shots) I have only had a handful ...

Re: 6mm Creedmoor

Any reason why Creedmoor over a 6SLR, the 6XC or the 6-6.5x47??

What pill are you thinking to go with? My Dasher can get a 105 to 3050+ FPS, I imagine your thinking a 110 or 115??

Will be interested to hear how it goes.

Re: How to hit the bullseye at 900 yd?

When you figure out how to hit the X can you tell me as well!! Seriously wind reading is something that takes years to learn and I would argue very few people truly master it. Scoring a 53 out of 60 at 900with a short barrelled factory rifle is a decent effort, don’t feel bad about that!! When we ha...

Re: 2019 what’s your plans?

Young family limits me to regionally close shoots. Hoping to do Sydney Queens (and get a bruising again) Canberra and Bendigo Queens. Ungarie match rifle/long range Glenrowan put on great events and will be trying to get to their Easter shoot. Wodonga long range picnic 3x900 is a great shoot as well...

Re: 300 Winmag and WSM Yes or No

Your going to need new dies whether you go 30cal or 7mm

I wouldn’t have an old 30cal rechambered for the project so your up for a new barrel regardless. (Or do you have a brand new barrel blank on hand)

Re: 300 Winmag and WSM Yes or No

If you want a 30cal I would forget the winmag and go the WSM, it has an excellent reputation for accuracy and with a 32-34” barrel will give you all the velocity your allowed on most ranges across the country.

And SAUM vs 284 for match rifle distances the SAUM has to get the nod.

Re: 300 Winmag and WSM Yes or No

I have been toying with the idea of the 300WSM as my home range allows 5675joules (4186ft-lbs) of muzzle energy as does Ungarie and Coonabarabran. I have been considering it only for use at the 1000-1500yard match-rifle events. With that energy limit you can utilise the 230gr Hybrids at around 2850f...

Re: Copperhead 184gr VLD

Okay, I am following you, and as I said I only have 6mm on hand to compare, but I’m pretty sure from pics the 7mm hybrid is also longer in forward of its bearing surface than the VLD. Manufacturers can create long or short secant ogives. I have been following the US shooting forums to see if anyone ...

Re: IBI Stainless Barrels from Cleavers

You go first and let us know !!

If they had slower twists I would like to try one on a fox shooting rig. 22BR or a 22-250AI. Who cares about barre life.

I think most f-class shooters will pass on finished lengths alone.

Re: Copperhead 184gr VLD

I am not quite following your logic Williada. Are you saying it’s the overall length, ogive shape or the length of the nose in front of the ogive that lends a VLD to be more sensitive than a hybrid. I do not have any 7mm Hybrids to hand at the moment, however I do have 6mm VLD and hydrids to compare...

Re: Copperhead 184gr VLD

Thanks guys. Hope he gets some going soon, I’m keen to try. Happy to hear they are VLD design, I have found the Berger 180VLD’s very easy to get working and that’s what I have been using in my 284’s. Just jam 0.015 and away you go, also found the same thing with 130gr 6.5mm Berger VLD’s, hopefully K...

Re: Junior shooters new rig

Are you planning on running 105 class pills or 115’s?? I have been going around in circles looking at the hotter 6mm options for that little extra ballistic advantage. Eyeing off 6XC, SLR, creed and x47. But for me the Dasher is stupid easy to make shoot and has still has plenty of performance. I’m ...

Copperhead 184gr VLD

With the latest small shipment of Berger’s bought in by BRT seeing 7mm pills now up to 90c ea my next order will likely be for Kens new 184gr bullet.

Has anyone tried any yet? Had anyone got a pic of one side by side with a Berger hybrid or VLD

Cheers
Ben.

Re: AUSTRALIAN FCWC TEAM SELECTION

Having the privilege to be a firer in the winning NSW F-open team last year at Lower Light with Dennis as the captain I whole heartedly wish him and the rest of the team the best of luck in South Africa. I am confident they will represent Australia very well!!! We should be throwing support behind o...
