ATR magazine name change
I'm wondering if now is an appropriate time for the NRAA to consider changing the name of our magazine?
After all, potential new members can download that magazine, and by having the TR Queens winner on the front page could be considered a turn off for younger shooters hoping to shoot modern rifles with scopes.
Probably a good time to consider highlighting our other diciplines by putting a collage of winners on the front page instead.
A magazine is a great resource to showcase our sport, and its name could be made more inclusive.

Re: ATR magazine name change
The only reply I have ever gotten in regards to comments about this is “when a F-Class shooter takes the time to write some articles they will probably get published”.
I’m not sure exactly how they get their content, but I think it’s largelt voluntary, if someone is that way inclined I’d say get in touch and see what you can do.

This could be the first real step for change. Small and simple and we could see how us the fclass community can push for change.
It would also demonstrate if the NRAA are acrually open to change and progressjve thinking

or as suggested previously, hand nraa over to ssa as a subsidiary, and let them get on with the job of running the whole shebang as a relevent business.

Re: ATR magazine name change
Great to see others consider there is room for change in our national magazine.
As change can start from the ground up, I will put it to my VRA Councilors that the VIC 2018 Queens report to the NRAA include a new more inclusive FRONT Page, to be published in the next ATR magazine.
We can lead the change, it just takes one State to do so, and the others will follow. Look at how our F Class Winners now get a chair beside the TR Winner.
Action shots of our winners lying on the mound taking aim will show the types of equipment in use. And will show the interested public the diversity in our organisation.
I have never been an SSAA member, however if you can learn something from a more successful organisation to improve your own, then you'd be silly not to. They are a very progressive and mature organisation.
We have so many examples around the world to learn from, lets make the NRAA great again for the longevity of our sport!

Naming idea's
Target Shooting Australia
Australian Target Shooting
Picking a name is difficult, however it should reflect what we do, and give scope for encompassing future disciplines.

Magazine front page
Currently the magazine has a TR Queens winner plastered on the front page, maybe this should change to showcase key news worthy items such as:
International Event achievements
Australian Gun Law changes
NRAA membership launches
Individual Association key initiatives - e.g. Come and Try days
Important SSR rule changes
Game changing new equipment on the market
Political news around election time - and who to vote for
Open Grants, and how to apply - or successful major grant recipients that has made a difference to our sport

and hats,stubby holders, and tshirts.
how many members?
that many hats in the public with long range target shooter written on them?
a good start in exposing ourselves in a positive way.
then a little drinking session where non shooters are handed a sherbie in a stubby holder with long range target shooters on it.
more exposure in a positive friendly environment.
and each one sold actually makes a little bit of money to push the cause further.
keep safe,
bruce.

Re: ATR magazine name change
im being realistic here bruce.
add up the cost of a scope/rifle setup that a new shooter could expect to fork out.[and be competitive] with out rests, rear bags and reloading equipment.
then think about the target audience.gen y,gen now,gen me.possibly with 2 kids,a mrs,a mortgage and bills.
now ask yourself if getting on the piss [as they do] with their mates or doing family stuff on a limited budget is going to convince them to stop having fun and spend thousands on a target rifle.
this sport is pricing itself out of existence
now ask yourself why shooting sports membership is on the decline....
