Importing scopes
Hiyas,
Have been looking to buy a new scope.
I've made the choice of which scopes I'm interested in. The biggest problem is the price difference between the dealers here and the prices on US websites. Dose anyone know if there is a reason the same scope in Aust. costs up to a thousand bucks more than in the US when our dollar is at parity. Are there some huge costs involved in getting them through customs or something. I would of expected maybe 2 to 300 dollars difference for the importing costs maybe a few more dollars for the shop but in some cases its been up to a thousand dollars and on a high priced scope it makes it hard to shop in Aust.
Is it a case of the shops or the government making a killing out of the shooting public or if I myself was to buy from the US direct would it end up costing me the same in export and import costs. I had a look at the "Importing" thread and it seemed to address the type of items you need a dealers licence import . As far as I am aware you still don't need a dealers licence to import scopes or has this changed now. Anyone that can shed some light on this subject PLEASE DO.

Hi LEE.308
Have a look at adorama.com or blue bazooka.com
I deal with them and you will have your scope to your door in 7 days.
Cheers

Hmmmmm
Hiya Paul,
I was having a look at the Adorama site and found the scopes I was after at the prices I would expect to pay, thanks however the shipping info says it wont ship to Aust. I was just wondering if you had the same trouble and had to do something to be able to get them into the country or will they only ship certain scopes here.
Cheers

Its ok just got it sorted,
the scope I was looking at was the Sightron S111 8-32x56 and when I went to the shipping it said it wont ship to Aust.
Other scopes no problem, must be something to do with the Sightron co. as Bushnell 4.5 - 30 x 50mm Elite 6500 can be shipped here no problems for $68.00
Cheers

No wories
Hey Paul,
No worries mate I will check them out too.
I actually got on to the support staff at NVT and ask them what the go was with their pricing. After a few minutes on the keys I manage to get their prices down though still quite high.
Will give optics zone a go and see what the have to offer.
Cheers.

Customs charges
I'm going to order the 10-50 Sightron from The Optics Zone .Were there any excess charges for the scope coming through customs.
I dont think I have to pay GST if the cost of the goods dosnt exceed $1000.
But dose the cost of postage get included as the cost price or is that separate.
Thanks for directing me there. Much appreciated.

scope
The goods I have ordered through them has not exceded $1,000. But I would say, the cost of the goods , postage not included would have to excede $1,000.
The invoicing is very explanitory.
Cheers
