New starter

#1 Postby The Savage » Sat Apr 23, 2011 3:15 am

Hi all,
Went out the other day and shot a 800yd match after talking to an old friend about it.
I've shot a lot of service rifle, mainly with 03a3 springfield and a Swiss K31.

I just used what I had in the cupboard, an old 110FP .308 Savage with a Burris 4.5-14 scope in a Choate Varmint stock.
Needless to say I ran out of elevation but found the Ballistic plex on my scope got me out of the poo.
I got a heap of 5s and "V" bulls.....and some 4s, so for first time out I was pretty chuffed and will certainly be trying it again.

Cheers

That's brilliant "the savage".

The long range shooting part is a real challenge. The satisfaction of working out how much wind there is, and then shooting in the middle of the target at long ranges is why people keep coming back!!

You will likely find that with the right gear on your rifle, it will serve you well enough for quite some time yet.

Welcome and enjoy.

Thanks,
Yes I reckon with a better scope and a 20moa base she'll do me for a while.
Typical Savage.....plenty accurate enough.

Should add I was using 155 Palma{Sierra's} with 46gr of 2208.

Yep, pretty hard to fault that as a starting load for any 308 range rifle.
