Powder/primer shortages

#1 Postby RDavies » Mon Jul 30, 2012 2:19 pm

Every gunshop in my area or around Sydney has been totaly out of powder for at least the last month since the changes to the dangerous goods transport rules. How is it faring in other states? Are they also affected by the rule change.
Any news on what will happen in the long term?
All the gunshops just say is it should be sorted soon, but one or two are now saying it could be months till they find a solution.

Thanks for the warning Rod. In the Wait Awhile state that means we will be out soon too. Going to buy another 4kg of powder and couple of thousand primers to make sure Im sorted for a while longer.

If WA has the same problems, you are likely too late, unless the gunshops had a big stash. From what I told, when some people heard the powder and primers will be unavailable, they bought everything the shops had in stock of certain powders and primers.
I know Brisbane has no dangerous goods transport problems, but dont know what other states situation is.

I haven't heard of a problem in Vic. Last week I bought 8Kg of 2208 and 1000 CCI 450s from the VRA, and 2Kg of 2213Sc and 2000 BR-2s from Pro-Cal. So if you can arrange private transport from Vic you might be okay. Both of them will take credit card orders over the phone. Neither mentioned problems getting powder or primers.

I will be buying up big time when I get to Brisbane. The shopping list people have given me from down here will make it look like I am starting a war when I stock up at the QRA store.

There is another reason to buy ADI powders now. Winchester is taking over ADI (powder at least), and the price is expected to rise 10 or 15% very soon.

Alan I thought that was just a distribution thing?

Brad,

Not sure about the details - my source gave me the impression it was a takeover. He said the price rise has already been announced by wholesalers.

I heard Winchester took on the distribtion and yes there might be a price rise. Sorry I probably took your post as that Winchester were buying out ADI powders.

Well actually that's what I was lead to believe, but your version sounds more credible. :D

Hey Alan, what are you going to use the CCI 450's with 8)

I suppose I might find out in a couple of weeks time.

Cheers.

Dammit - I've just realised why I get loose pockets in the 284. I should be using large primers    .....

Actually they're for the club 6BR which has been getting rather a lot of use lately.

Nice save 8)

Any way, they wouldn't fit in a Magnum cartridge either so enjoy :)
