Guys,

I was wondering if any of you have pushed your 22's over the years?

On the weekend i pulled mine out and shot 300y and 500y with surprising results. Of the 35 roudns fired all of them were on target. From a 50m zero i needed 45moa for 300y and 102moa for 500y.

According to Sierra bullets, thats consistent with about 1300fps for a 40 grain rimfire pill .......

at 700m you would need 180 moa

SK Standard Plus 40gr at 1090fps (chronoed velocity)

isnipe gave me:
300y - 46.23
500y - 101.66
600y - 135.64
700y - 174.56

The 300y figure was too high and gave me a 1 high left, the 500y adjustment was a little high but its hard when you could shoot a 3/4 high, 5 or 3/4 low with the same hold.

I had 52moa left in my scope so i had to back it down to 6x and use the reticle to hold over. I am going to get a set of Barrel Ex rings that have 40moa in them which will allow me to shoot to 500y with a small hold over. THe sightron has 2moa hash marks so it will be easy to do. 600 on the other hand is goign to be impossible.

here are some comeups for the 40/72 shooting a 450 gn bullet with black powder (81 gn swiss 1.5).

900m 145 moa.
these figures are from a programme.
in practice, the numbers are a little less. this could be my sight radius, or the difficulty of calculsting b.c.
of interest with these bullets, which start their journey in the transsonic zone is that if you adjust the b.c for correct wind deflection, it is wrong for real world trajectory and vice versa.
the black powder bullet is quite similar in design to the rimfire bullet and at similar velocities, but would probably have a higher b.c due to increased weight.
good on you for the rimfire experiment.
rimfire silhouette is shot to 200m on quite small targets and has a high degree of difficulty. apparrently correct ammo choice is critical.

After Raton, I am going to give rimfire f class a start at our range.
No more loading or cleaning. Might learn some more slang I think

i just dropped close to $200 on 10 different packs of ammo to start testign with. Hopefully i find one of the cheaper packs works for me.

cameron,
before you get carried awy, try rimfire silhouette.
the rams are at 200m, and are a test of shooter and ammo.
some ammo won't work.
federal used to make supersonic for this job.

100-200yds is Rimfire distance and teaches one a hell of a lot. I try to only shoot my 22 at 100yds or further. People laugh at me, and then I hit still with it at 250yds and they quieter down a bit

I'm running a Anschutz Match 64 1416DHB, Eley Club and Team ammo, Bushnell 5-15x40 in Burris Signature Zee Rings with 20MOA inserts.
