Tr & F Class ranges

G'day,
Not have ever shot on any of the above ranges, are any ranges in Aus. Up hill or down hill or are most of them fairly flat? Just curious!!

In Australia we shoot along side our target rifle shooters. We have ranges inland, and on the coast. Can you explain your question a little better for us?

Just curious as to the type of terrain ? Wether ranges are flat or are some shot either uphill or down hill, Ie. From the mound to the butts.

I have shot on a few ranges around Australia. Most are pretty flat when compared to some other ranges around the world.

Most major ranges are reasonably flate. Some smaller inland ranges shoot across a gentle valley tipped up or down. Of the three within 30mins drive 1 is flat and 2 are across and down from 500yds

Rifle ranges in Australia vary considerably.

I can name a few in New South Wales alone where you are shooting up, down and flat (some you get all on the one range depending on the distance).

There is a comprehensive list of Australian ranges that has been put together in these forums, you can find them here.

The list uses Google Maps so you can look at each range. I haven't tried it but you may be able to change your view to see whether you shoot up, down or flat.

Moe range is up hill. More so at 600/700 as the second butts is higher up the hill.

What do you consider a flat range? Hamilton is as flat as you will find anywhwere with mounds that just raise you from grass level, of the ranges I shoot at Horsham is down hill, Warracknabeal and Stawell have a large gully in them Warrnambool is all over the place up hill and down dale and Portland shoots around a clifftop with a hill in the middle. From 600 yds in Portland you cannot see the covered firing piont that we have at 200 yds! We also have a covered firing point at 700 yards which we shoot well past the northern side by at least 50 yds!

Canberra you shoot across a 10 degreee slope.
Goulburn you shoot uphill.

Geelong is probably the most interesting I've shot on anywhere with respect to terrain. There you are shooting almost parallel with but across a deep gully. It has wind flags at various places but most are a long way from your trajectory. One or two of the flags are moderately helpful, particularly for telling you why you suddenly got that wide 3 about 30 seconds ago .

Toowoomba is (was) interesting - emphatically up hill at 300, level at 500 & down hill at 600 yards.
