Each year my local range hold a Anzac Day 303 shoot and I thought it would be fun to have a crack and something totally different to my usual FTR / Open. Not wanting to spend a fortune, what do I need to look for in a Enfield? Current prices on used guns seem to vary from $200 to $12000 with most being around $800. I'm not interested in historical significance or rarity I just want something to play with at the range with some inherent accuracy.

Re: Enfield / 303 Advice
Thanks for the tip, is there any way of readily identifying the heavy barreled variants. I have not found one listed as such, is this because they are rare or just desirable? I did find this which looked OK

They're cut down and recrowned Long Tom barrels and have an H stamped on the knox - or is it nocks, seen both spellings - form. Not particularly rare as far as I know.
I'd be wary of the tunnel foresight on the No 4, is probably against the rules of the comps you want to shoot.

Awesome and thanks for the tip regarding sights. There is some one who is knowledgeable on the subject in our club but I haven't managed to catch up with him yet. I found one listed with "H marked barrel and H marked stock" but at $1900 I would be buying another Barnard action 1st! I did find this ( https://www.usedguns.com.au/Product.aspx?p=126471) listed right at the bottom with a "heavy barrel" but being 3 states away would be very much sight unseen!

One of my SMLEs has the parker hale sight and I prefer it to the central. Can't comment on whether that's a fair price or not. It might be worth contacting Jeff Pannan, who runs the Melbourne gun show, to see what he's got.
