No time soon as Alan said the next one will be in the US and then I think Canada has put their hand up and I'd say they would get it before us as they have attended every FCWC so far, unless we actually attend I doubt we would ever hold it here.

Well I am hoping Raton New Mexico will be easier to get to in terms of logistics, costs, firearms import/export/air travel etc. I,m keen.
I wonder if it will all be long range like Bisley, or if their will be shorts, mediums and longs?
Has anyone here competed in USA before? How was the logistics/paperwork side? I,m thinking a dummy run to NZ for a shoot next year will be a warm up.

Hi. Re: New Mexico,if you go to NRAA web site and scroll down the list of info, etc.[to the left of JJJ's smiling photo] you will find "Australia takes silver in New Mexico". There is a fairly detailed report of what it is like from the TR teams perspective. It does not mention permits, travel or freight but I am sure that the team captain or someone from NRAA could help with the details[not saying that they will be the same as regulations change all the time?] Hope this may help. Ray.

This is the downside of living in godzone - you are a long way from all the other shooting destinations except New Zealand - and the Kiwis are below the F class radar at the moment. That means that if the usual countries are involved in hosting matches, you will pay through the nose travelling to four championships out of five, if Australia ever gets a guernsey to host the matches.

Aussie teams in other disciplines make the most of a bad deal by appointing a manager or adjudant to organise the trip, get the best travel rates & most particularly, the chapest option to ship rifles, ammunition & other geat to the destination.

When the Aussie match rifle team went to Bisley in 2006, we learned a few things:

Group bookings aren't all they're cooked up to be. Generally, you can get better deals by taking early booking options.
A travel agent can be a help for larger teams. For example, we were able to coordinate 20 odd leaving from four destinations to travel together from Singapore.
Most flights traverse Singapore, in which case you will pay a stiff fee for any accompanying firearms to be escorted from flight to flight by armed guards.
    Overweight fees are extortionate.
There can be import fees associated with unaccompanied sporting goods, but these can be recouped on departure by lodging appropriate documentation some time prior to travelling.
Britain, for example, has import restrictions on certain ammunition. You would need to resolve this well before travelling
In the end, we paid $15 per kilogram for our unaccompanied luggage each way - $30 for the round trip. For the average 60 kg per head, that added up & remember, because of the team size, we were on the best rate. We budgetted then for an overall travel & accommodation cost per team member of $7000 for a fortnight tour, and that was pretty spot on.

If F class were to operate as a single group (Open, TR & camp followers), then you could get close to achieving some of the synergy & economies that larger teams do - as long as you have a coordinator to nurse the team.

John,

My thoughts for getting ammo and gear to a FCWC are to select "keeper" barrels well in advance, have cases formed and loads developed, projectiles batched, then send all barrels, cases and projectiles by surface freight to a contact in the host country. Also arrange for purchase and delivery of powder, primers etc. to that contact. Then arrive early enough to fine tune loads to local conditions, powder batch etc. This needs a willing local contact and provision of reloading facilities of course - I believe that's going to be quite easy to find in the US.

Alan F, my thoughts are pretty similar to yours. I was thinking I would send my heavy rests, bags etc by sea freight, but I suppose barrels could be sent as well. Would we need to reload over seas, couldnt we carry enough ammo on the plane? Otherwise as you said, we would need someone to send our gear to over their, and a home base for any fine tuning, cronoing etc
Hopefully my 1st overseas shooting trip will be to NZ. It should be easier paperwork wise getting guns into NZ, and hopefully cheaper for excess baggage. Anyone else thinking of going?

where do these costs leave such things as seb rests to transport in both weight & volume.
i vaguely remember matt p had a lightweight lower volume rest suited to air travel.
it obviously worked well, because he won a bit with it.
perhaps you would comment matt, & possibly show a photo.
bruce.
