Hello from ANZAC Range, hopefully not for the last time, because its a remarkable location. Not sure what the mid-summer weather is normally like in Sydney, but its pretty wet so far and supposed to continue.

We have 14 in F-Open, which must be one of the best ever turnouts. Day 1 of the leadup was yesterday, and the results are HERE. Terry Sheedy is currently shown in the F-Std field but he was shooting a 6BR so the results will be corrected at some stage. I actually got the loads right for this one so am enjoying the almost forgotten experience of being in the lead. Ben Ferrara is continuing on from his good form at Canberra so should do well over the 5 days. The one everyone's watching of course is Rod Davies. He wasn't really here yesterday - wandering around in a sleep-deprived state, but I reckon he'll come out of hibernation quite soon  !

As expected, all F-Class are shooting on manual targets, as are C Grade. They only have sufficient Kongsbergs for A and B. So that's good for us because there was a suggestion at one stage that we might be on the ETs with different rings on monitor vs. target. Actually, one F-Class shooter fired 1 shot on the ETs - but he scored no points so didn't do it again

More rain expected today, but after the way things were run yesterday (very well), I think we should get through all 4 ranges again.

I'll be back again tonight. Wish you were all here.

Alan :D

well done Alan. Looks like a nice tight field so far - plenty of talent in both FS and FO. Keep it up and beware the sleeping bear!!!

Sorry this is late folks - I was waiting for the official results but the NSRWA website seems to have fallen over.

Here's the final F-Open scores in the leadup :

1 A Fraser 475.44
2 T Sheedy 473.38
3 G Phillips 471.35
4 L Reynolds 471.34
5 R Davies 466.38
6 L Rozsnyai 463.18
7 S Rigby 461.39
8 B Ferrara 461.32
9 G Warrian 460.30
10 T Larkin 460.28
11 M Knudsen 459.28
12 B Knudsen 457.27
13 D Shallis 455.29
14 L Shallis 443.24

Top 3 F-Std A :

1 G Emms 473.38
2 M Halloran 469.31
3 E Mace 467.25

Top 3 F-Std B :

1 L McRostie 463.24
2 J Johnstone 455.25
3 P Jonstone 453.28

TR A Grade was won by Angus Bell with 400/400

Weather might be less rainy tomorrow, but I'm not looking forward to sunshine - it was quite oppressive when the sun came out this afternoon. Terry Sheedy and Lewis Reynolds won't be staying for the Queens, but I believe Rob Eager and Geoff Miners will be here so numbers should be at least 14 again.

Good night.

Alan.

Hmmm... the NSWRA website is up again, and they reckon I didn't win the leadup  . Just another little hiccup, this one caused by a card mixup between Den Shallis and I.

Another thing that's going is, that the ROs are asking SOME F-Class shooters to move over to the electronic targets. We protested on our target but a couple of shooters volunteered. The ET faces vary, and rarely have the same rings as the screens. I think they've now decided to do the sensible thing and move C-Graders only. Doing it with F-Class makes it quite inequitable and isn't acceptable at this level of competition.

Also, we had a security breach, idiots wandering onto the danger zone and refusing to leave. Police were called and we lost 30 minutes.

Back again tonight.

Results for Day 1 of the Queens are now posted - see HERE.

So we have 16 F-Open in the Queens which is the most ever here (c.f. 12 in 2009). Geoff Miners is not well so didn't make it unfortunately. But Rob Eager, Tony McKenna, John Skinner and Matt Paroz have joined the field.

Conditions could best be described as twitchy. There was a moderate headwind that varied in direction between about 10 and 1 o'clock. There was no rain apart from a few spots early. Rod Davies definitely hasn't had his mind on the job so far, but I'm not writing him off this early. Former F-Open star Matt Paroz seems to be in a similar frame of mind.

Calibres (incomplete)

A Fraser 7 Shehane
B Ferrara 6x47, 284 Win
R Eager 6 Dasher, 284 Win
A McKenna 284 Win
M Knudsen 6BR, 6.5-284
G Phillips 243 AI, 7 RSAUM
L Rozsnyai 243 AI, 7 RSAUM
T Larkin 243 Win
R Davies 6.5 WSSM, 284 Win, 7 WSM
J Skinner 6-250 AI
L Shallis 243 Win
S Rigby 6BR
B Knudsen 6BR, 6.5-284
D Shallis 243 Win
G Warrian 6BR
M Paroz 6BR
L Reynolds 6.5x55AI
T Sheedy 6BRX

BTW some who know Dennis may be wondering if L Shallis is related. He certainly is. Lou is Den's identical twin! He started shooting only a few months ago and has been improving at each range.

That's about all for today. Back with more tomorrow night.

Fantastic shooting Alan - an awe inspiring comeback after Canberra obviously you got things sorted out and are locked onto the conditions. keep it up.

No doubt Rod being the professional that he is will be doing his homework tonight (maybe bringing out Gertrude) but he can't catch you if you don't drop any!!

Cheers,
and good luck to all. Looks like some fantastic competition down there. I am frothing at the mouth!!!!

Hi again.

The NSWRA website isn't going to be updated tonight, so here's the F-Class leaderboards :

F-Std A
S Hart 440.24
R Halloran 439.31
J Peters 437.37
A Hall 432.31
M Halloran 432.31

F-Std B
P Johnstone 436.23
C Austin 431.23
R McCracken 425.23
L Foxall 424.22
B Apap 424.18

F-Open
A Fraser 444.31
M Knudsen 442.38
B Ferrara 441.42
R Eager 441.32
G Phillips 438.28

Highlights were Ben Ferrara's 60.10 at 300, and Meichelle Knudson's 240/240 daily agg.

Weather was windy from the east, warm and mostly overcast. Well tomorrow's the big day - things can happen at the longs - should be a good close finish.

Back tomorrow - hopefully to give you the final results immediately afterwards.

Alan
