Hornardy .308 200 ELDX

#1 Postby wsftr » Wed Apr 17, 2024 4:42 pm

Hi,
I'm assuming I can run them at low 2600fps (2610 - 2630) in Lapua SRP brass without compromising brass life?
Does anyone have experience with them?

I don't think you'll have any issues with speed. Speaking generically some of the X (hunting versions) have a very long bearing surface so the throating requirements may be different to a 200gr Berger etc.

Probably not is the short answer. Running 208 Hornady I needed a throat length equivalent to a 230 Berger. Your .170fb would be ok for 185 berger and marginal for the pointy 200.20x so don't think it will work with a 200 eldx which are generally dumpier than the equivalent weight Berger. I haven't had a 200 eldx in hand so this is just educated guess based on bullets I have played with.

Here's a thread that has a side by side photos of Berger be Hornady. Just looking at it I'd say it would need .250 - .300fb. https://www.longrangehunting.com/thread ... 72/page-20
