Bill Caffee, rimfire gunsmith guru had an article in "Precision Shooting"
a few years back where he threaded a barrel, tested it and then proceeded
to cut every second thread off, then test etc. etc. till the barrel was only
held on by a few threads. He concluded it did not hurt accuracy one bit,
this was with a rimfire so I don't know if you could do the same with a centrefire.
