This is one for the tech-heads, how to “Build a phone-controlled smart trickler for under $60” , US $ that is. It’s an interesting idea for those not willing to spend the $ for an Auto Trickler

Hoping I can make this to work with an Ohaus PX224 scale. It has both an r232 and USB B port for the printer connection. Do you know of anyone who has tried it yet? Do I need to modify the code to allow for the extra decimal place? I’m keen to buy the bits and see how I go, thank you for putting the information out there.

I don't understand the fascination with making it work via your phone? What is wrong with a couple of wires it is going to be a fixed piece of furniture. I actually rate instruments that need your phone to work lower on the scale of usability unless it is something like a screen that is saving me money.

The Autotrickler V3 is controlled by the phone through an application and works very well.
Though the ingenuity of the open source application is great and a way of sharing the know how to do this sort of thing yourself, if so inclined.

I believe the benefit of using the phone to control the unit is that it removes the need to program in a weight on the scale. Instead, it uses the phone to allow the end user to set a weight, and control the whole system through the micro controller. I’ve got most of the bits and pieces in the way. All up it’ll cost me about $100. Will see how I go getting it all set up and running.
