Elevation change for 155g palma from 100m to 800m

#1 Postby Tman » Sat May 15, 2010 11:59 am

Hi Guys, Any ideas on elevation change for a 155g NRAA Palma from 100m to 800m, out of a 28" 13T MADDCO barrel in .308

I have varying figures from different tables from 18 to 25 and even up to 28 MOA.

Any details would be great

Ben

My come up from 100m to 800m is 26.75moa using this projectile in a 28" barrel.

A good rule of thumb for the 308win is to come up by the distance (in hundreds) you just left

eg 300m to 400m with a 300m ZERO is up 3MOA

Continuning the example using the same zero moving from 400 to 500

400m = 3moa therefore 500m = 7moa (ie 3+4).

This will get you on the paper no problem.

Hope this helps

Thanks Simon, I had a look at your rule of thumb which comes up to 28, so I would imagine that you have had an element of fine tuning to arrive at 26.75, but helpful all the same. I will give these figures a try and see where they take me.

I have just gotten my omark action back with a ken farrell mount, and put a nightforce 8-32x56 BR, took it to the indoor 25 and 50m range, most impressive, then went to the outdoor range at Silverdale and shot it at 100m yesterday, hence wanting to know what the elevation change would be, out to 800m, the maximum range at Malabar. Next week I am going back to Silverdale to shoot it out to 200m and see where it goes.

Thanks for your help

Pretty much what Simon says; It will vary due to what load/powder You are using. In my case I use 46gn 2208 in a 30" 13T Maddco barrel and my elevations are only slightly different to Simon's.

The rounds that I will be using are the ones that are supplied by the state association, the winchester .308 155gr Palma match rounds.

From what I have read they run at about 2950 f/s and the BC is 0.462 or thereabouts. Elsewhere I have seen 155 Palm Match Kings and others.

Any other details would be great. I have seen a ballistics program JBM and I am wishing to put this info into this and see what it comes back with and compare.

Well with my light load of 2208 and nosler bullets 155gr, its 26.8 min come up from 100 to 800m (2800 fps)

from sierra bullets & verified at the range

But with the winchester ammo and hbc bullets, its got to be 25moa or perhaps a bit less....... and i am guessing a bit over 2900fps in a 28inch barrel

From my own testing, the difference between the 155 SMK and HBC is about 2.5MOA elevation at 1000 yards.
