Barrel twist 308

#1 Postby Chopper » Tue May 01, 2012 9:02 pm

Has any one had a play with barrel twist since all these new projectiles have come along in 308, ?, 1-10, 1-11 , 1-12 , a top shooter in the states won a major a while back with a 1-10 and 155g projectiles,?, Shultz and Omark used to run 1-12s I think some time ago with 144gn for memory, they went ok, and were shorter barrels, Chop.

Chop,
Have been using 1-10 twist and 155 grain HBC`s for some time, they work very well.

Hi Chop, I'm using a 1:13 Lilja in my F class rig and a 1:12 Krieger in my TR rifle, both with HBCs

Berger recommend 1/14 ( or faster ) for their VLD and it's longer than either the 2156 Sierra or the HBC. Length seems to be the dominating factor in determining twist, so I guess you could deduce from the Berger statement that 1/14 should be OK.
Personally I think it too slow and use both 13 and 12 with equal results.
