runout

#1 Postby bruce moulds » Mon Dec 16, 2013 8:16 am

we all strive for minimal runout.
recent shooting has offered some interesting data.
fireforming unturned cases and ammo with 0.003 to 0.009 bullet runout gave a plotted vert of 0.5 moa at 500 mt for 12 shots.
11 of those shots were in 0.25 moa vert.
possibly a statistical aberration. more evidence during more fireforming will be interesting.
shooting the same ammo at 100 mt showed 0.280" vert.
the same load with cleaned up necks and fireformed brass with a max of 0.003 runout gave vert of 0.271", a definite improvement.
this is possibly the difference that runout variations cause. not much for long range shooting.
seating depth and powder charges are of far more concern to our kind of accuracy than runout.
benchrest shooters on the other hand would want to consider runout much more than we do.
keep safe,
bruce.
