New lots of 2213sc

#1 Postby Brad Y » Thu Jul 25, 2013 9:16 pm

Tried a tub of 2213sc in my 260 improved the other week and was pleasantly surprised with it. Went into the LGS to get another can today and wouldnt you bloody know it none of that lot left. There were some older batches but Im using 5096 and the stuff I ended up getting 5195. I know one must do their own testing, just wondering if anyone noticed any differences in burn rate between these lots possibly... Wont get a chance to test for a couple of weeks and I want to stock up a bit in the next few weeks on powder and primers.

Alan F did a nice chart of comparing some batches of 2213 a while ago. - Don't know if he has tested any of the newer batches yet??

Yes I read that old post. Very informative but there hasnt been any additions to it.

Spoken to one member who is now using 5096 and said he had to bump his load in a 284 up a bit to hit same velocity with it. No wonder I need to get 48+gr of it into the case 260 improved case to be in the estimated 2930 node.

Brett, bring your magnetospeed to swanbourne next weekend if you can,I want to see how this new batch goes.

Just for an update I chronied 47.2gr of 2213sc in batch 5096 to get 2875fps and 48.2gr of the same batch to get 2910fps. However 48.2gr in batch 5195 only allowed me to get 2860fps. Im wondering if the 2213sc is possibly burning out the muzzle in this case or if the CCI450's are struggling with such a slow powder. Im going to re test the new batch as the ES (and SD  ) was very good with it.

Also I know in the past people have found accuracy nodes at approx 2820fps and around 2930fps, just wondering why mine appears to be around 2870. Would a barrel block have a dampening affect that contributes to this?

G'day brad,

Its an old thread, but interesting and relevant to what I'm going through at the moment.

I use AR2213sc in my 300wsm and .284. Recently, both cartridges have nbeen shooting sloppy groups using meticulously prepared known good loads.
I re-tested my 300wsm a couple of weeks ago and found that the MV had dropped by aprox 40fps. I had to increase the load by .5g to get the same MV and grouping.
I had only just started using LOT 5195. I've never seen a difference between other batches of AR2213sc.

I'll be re-checking and tweaking my .284 on the weekend and expect to see reduced MV's with current good load and LOT 5195.

Denis

I gave up on 2213sc in the 260 Imp, it gave me no more velocity that what 2209 could give but the only thing it did give was nasty copper fouling. Glazed me up big time and I didnt get it all out before a prize shoot. The gun lasted all the ranges but the last one and got kicked off the line in a team shoot after the individuals finished. Havent tried it in the shehane yet, hopefully I can get it going with 2209- lots of work to do still...
