Clermont OPM SH Class

Introduced in 2019, this class is defined in Chapter 23 of the SSRs. It offers shooters with factory sporting rifles the opportunity of participating at NRAA ranges alongside TR and F-Class.

Clermont OPM SH Class

Post by Daveh »

I just wanted to say a big “Thank You” to the members of the Clermont Rifle Club for holding a great event on May Day weekend.
Mainly for the fact they offered Sporting Hunter class at the open.
I don’t shoot S/H class but one of my sons shoots the class when he comes to our local range.
To keep me company on the road trip and because Clermont was offering S/H class at their shoot, he came along and entered.

A group of seven from our club made the road trip and to break it down, two had F-Class rifles, two used 308 S/H rifles and stepped up to F Standard B grade. Two were Juniors and one other member who just started shooting competed in S/H class.

The whole event looked like a huge success from my point of view. There was about a dozen or so shooters on the end of the range competing in S/H and all having a good time. I wondered how many I would see next year in another class.

I also wanted to thank the Clermont members who gave up their normal places in the shoot to supervise and teach all the rookies.

I won’t mention names in case I miss anyone, but thank you.

I realise consensus is that sporting/hunting class is not meant as a competitive class but my opinion is that if the class is offered at an open, you might be surprised at the numbers. It also gives shooters a taste of competition and they may end up stepping up to other classes.

Another thought for S/H class is A and B grades. A grade uses the 6 and X like F open and B grade 5 and V as it exists.

We all had a good weekend.

Hi Dave,
As Ben said thanks for the praise, was great to see so many people turn up and your always welcome in Clermont. Don’t forget we will be having our 3 day shoot in October which will finish up with the Sporter/Hunter classic on the Sunday. Hopefully we will have a flyer up on the QRA calendar within a month or so

Clermont has it's OPM in the same weekend as Muckadilla. So always a tussle to get shooters. However, the second biggest class after fopen was the SH. this class has been the savior of our club as it is now massively the main class shot out here.
