proposed new prize shoot

would there be any interest in a prize shoot at 800, 900, &1000 yards or metric equivalent?
it would be run to international rules with international targets, and include open & std. fullbore shooters would also be invited to shoot what would be a palma match.

Would be great for practice for intl shooting, including teams. Would you propose to have Bisley style shooting?

hi alan,
at the moment i would only envisage more of an american format, and individual shooters non bisley style.
the bisley style would certainly be interesting, but are aussies ready fr it?

Two questions:

Whats the Bisley version/format, and how different is it from whats run normally.

Bisley style is three shooters to every target and the shooters score for each other, whilst taking it in turns to shoot. There is an allotment of about 45 seconds per shot for each shooter to asses the conditions, make adjustment for conditions , take aim and fire. Then its the next shooters turn etc etc. There is no scoring or check scoring, so when you have finished shooting you pack up your equipment and depart the mound until your allotted time for the next yardage.

Maybe - if it was held at Murray Bridge, its got a good chance of attracting a few Victorians. But I believe it would need to be more than a single day event to make the travel worthwhile. And of course the promise of cheap accommodation/camping and meals, paid markers etc. would obviously help.

Regardless of the above, I think the idea is good. I for one would like to see how our scores compare with those published from the US. I mentioned Bisley style because that is something I have never done, and would like to try. Perhaps a 2 day meeting could allow time for a Bisley style event, even if it was just one range?

How about using the new range at Condoblin or Ungarie and having some ranges out to 1200 yds (points not counted for the 2 day aggregate) for those whos rifles will shoot out to that range.

I assume you mean Condobolin? If so it is the geographic center of NSW.

Yes, right in the center of NSW, a fair distance for a lot of shooters I suppose, but I have heard they are building a new range to go out to 1500yds.

You could be right JohnK.
Either way, I think something different like Bisley style shoot, or as Bruce Moulds said, on international targets and international rules would be good if we can get it in a place where most shooters will be able to get to. A 2 day shoot will make it more worthwhile to travel to.

There was a big F-Class shoot organised for Coonabarabran a couple of years ago. I'm not sure what sort of turnout they had - didn't hear results so assume it wasn't a great success. Its hard enough getting shooters to attend Queens shoots nowadays - an event like the one proposed needs to have wide appeal, and be organised and publicised well in advance. I say this with some reluctance, but I would advise asking for genuine expressions of interest, and only going ahead if the promised numbers are sufficient for a successful event.

Bruce, you're doing the right thing by getting the opinions of F-Class shooters - if you give the shooters what they want, they're more likely to support the event.

am doing homework re doing something like this in s.a.
suggestion is a 2 day shoot with bisley style on the second day.
sara has targets, the fclass assn is in favour, and venues are being approached.
suggested timing is before july and after march, although pre vic queens would give state teams the opportunity for a practice.
any suggestions.
re longer than palma ranges, i personally attend match rifle shoots whenever possible. it is a lot of fun, & you get to shoot a fair few rounds.
match rifle in aust has been trying to promote long range fclass for many years. i am sure they would welcome any attempt to join them.
