LOADS & DIES FOR 6.5 X 47
HI, I HAVE PUCHASED A 6.5 X 47 MADDCO 30INCH BARREL 1 IN 8 TWIST , WHICH IS GETTING FITTED INTO MY OMARK ACTION - BY maddco are doing the fitting , MY QUESTION IS WHERE CAN I BY SOME REDDING DIES ? . WHAT STARTING LOAD SHOULD BE USED FOR THE 123 GR TO 139GR PERJECTILES USING ADI POWDERS . ANY STARTING HELP IS USEFULL . THANKS IN ADVANCE
I use Redding Type S Match die set with a 0.289 bush for 130gr Berger VLD projectiles. Try your local Qld Rifle Association shop http://www.qldrifle.com/QRAshop.htm
Start with 40.0gr of ADI 2209 and work up, I'm using 41.8gr with the 130gr Bergers for 2925fps and I also have a 1:8 twist 30" barrel.

just a question that may help both jerryatric and myself. ive just started putting some 130gr berger, lapua cases and 2209 loads together as per your earleyer recomendations. my chamber is throated for 130/140gr projies and i have started with only 39gr of powder to run in my barrel but have found that the powder comes leval with the sholder and basicaly would be leval with the base of the projie. do you find that a load of 41.8 is compressed and do you also use a drop tube?

Hi Bat,
The load fills the case completely (to the shoulder) with 41.8gr of powder it may even be under slight compression. I cant hear the granules crunching as I seat the bullets. I am jamming not jumping the bullets (130gr VLDs) 0.010" into the lands. The bullets dont seat down into the shoulder but the bearing surface is only two thirds the way down into the neck.
The bullets also have a tapered boat tail so allow even more room for additional powder if required. I think at around 42.0gr (still a safe load) the load would be slightly compressed. I dont use a drop tube as I dont think the load requires compressing.
A full case of powder is one of the sought after criteria for developing an accurate load. Dont be afraid to fill the case with 2209 powder as QuickLoad shows safe pressures for this load and it appears that with the 130gr bullets you cant get enough 2209 into the case to cause problems.
The reamer I used was one from Dave Kiff (Pacific Tool) and is a no neck turn 0.294" with 0.159 Lead and 0.173 Throat. This is suitable for 120-140gr bullets which gives me all the scope I want for bullet selection. Not much else I can tell you except dont be afraid to load a full case of 2209 with the 130gr bullets.
I use CCI 400 small rifle primers.

i dont know the exact specs on the reamer as i had a guy in the states do it for me but i think mine may be throated slightly shorter than yours but longer than some!!. i know that a full case is a very good thing to aim for. ill do some more measurements and get back to you but at this stage the powder seeems leval with the body/sholder junction and the actual base ot the projie isnt far off that eigther. ill get an accurate OAL and see how it compares with yours.
