ACT F-Open Diary

To all F-Open members who couldn't make it to Canberra :

Over the next few nights I will post a brief report on the day's events. Of course you will be able to see a full results sheet on http://www.canberrarifleclub.org.au/CRC_ACT_Rifle_Championship_Results_2005.htm, but I will try to give some additional info such as equipment, conditions etc.

We have an impressive list of 15 competitors already, including 2 prominent BR shooters Stuart Elliot and Richard Wild, a French shooter, Kelvin Bell from Brisbane, and with Alan Peake and Matt Paroz in the mix, competition is going to be very tough.

Weather is cold and gusty tonight, but forcast is for an improvement at least until Friday.

Hello again from Canberra. Well the competition was tough but the weather was even tougher. You only need to look at the 300m scores to know how tough. The wind was a headwind varing in direction and strength - it got easier as the day wore on but most strangers to this range (such as me) struggled.

I asked around today and you may be interested in the calibres used. As you can see, 6.5 variants were the most common.

What about some Std results. LOL :wink:

It's Ok I went to the rifle club site to get them. It looks like it was kinda tuff out there boys (and girls).

Your numbers will be increased by two Open when Trev arrives as Darren is coming with him. Mind you they are still loading ammo and intend leaving at 4am tomorrow. :roll:

I hope the weather improves for everyone.

But very impressive to see 32 F Class shooters on the mound.

(Notice i didnt say 18 FS shooters)

Tony, Lynn,

Sorry about not catering for F-Std, but when you're competing in F-Open you tend to mingle with F-Open. You could always recruit an F-Std shooter to phone through some gossip, then post that. I'm afraid you F-Std types are just going to have to "get your house in order" :lol:

Nah, I'm hopeless at housework, give me a rifle anyday.

I could ruffle some feathers and say that in SA that was not a problem as Std and Open were intermixed on our F Class targets ie we had FC squadded with FC not separated. :wink:

Hello from Canberra day 2 (still 3 to go $\:D/$ !).

The Rolph was decided today - a deserving win to Steve Southwell =D>

, especially given he's never shot at this range before. He screwed on a 6.5-284 barrel for the 2 800m ranges, and continued on where he left off with the 6BR. Incidentally he uses a tactical style rifle with a (wait for it.....) Harris bipod.

Locals Dave Groves and Matt Paroz (used 6.5x57AI today) filled the places =D>

. All results here. Over the 2 days everyone seemed to have there fair share of bad conditions, and compared to where I normally shoot they were BAD :shock:

! Mirage reading is compulsory, but it doesn't tell the true story.

Trev Otto and Darren Chapman arrived late this avo, ready for a good night's sleep after the long drive. With them and other late entries I wouldn't be surprised to see 25 F-Open starting at 300m tomorrow morning - let's hope so.

please be aware that whilst trev otto is a south australian fclass shooter, & the seconded fclass rep on sara, what he might say could represent the current sa point of view, or it could be his strong personal view only.
some of us are waiting to see what happens before we jump in any given direction,

You really must come try Lower Light range sometime, mirage here is something you only imagine in your nightmares, but in all fairness I haven't seen it at Canberra either.

As my name has been mentioned and for the record i have spoken with Bruce several times this week along with several others. The instructions given to Trev were in regard to 'scoring fullbore targets for FS' only and was not in any way condoning a debate on any other issue.

The majority of MBRC members have been spoken to but not all as some have not been availiable. I hope to conclude this by the end of today and pass on the info to Trev in regard to 'scoring fullbore targets for FS'
