larry,
we have read that the u.s. team is using a 7mm magnum. which one do you use, and is it the same as the team.
i believe the south africans use a form of the 8x68 necked to 7mm for really dirty conditions.

Bruce,
What you have read is correct. Members of the US team will be required to shoot a 7 Magnum. http://usfclass.com We will have a velocity bracket we will have to push 180 grain bullets to. I have just started testing a 7/270 WSM. Not much data yet.

Very interesting comment you made :?:

However, I know nothing about the decision; if this was made for FCWC 2013 :?:

Hi there

Just to fill in to the above statements.....
We have won the 2005 with the 7mm Tombi.
We shot & and took bronze with 7mm284win in Bisley 2009.
The chances are good that we go with the 7mm284 again in 2013.
To switch barrels here and to change caliber has much effort.
Our legislation is that we have "nameless actions" and the barrels get licensed - which makes switching almost impossible.
However - the F-Classers here use a variaty of calibers of the 7mm.

Jannie,

Can you give some details of the Tombi please - e.g. what case is it based on, and how is the parent case altered?

Thanks.

Jannie please step in if I am wrong but I believe the following without direct knowledge.

I think the parent case is a 30-06 (although reports of several others 7*57 etc http://www.sahuntingrifle.co.za/index.p ... unc=fb_pdf) and has similar case capacity to the 284 win. However, as the case head is straight (not rebated like a 284) I believe it would handle slightly higher pressure than the 284 without the extra bolt thrust and resultant case head damage. Some guys are reporting slightly stiffer loads (http://6mmbr.websitetoolbox.com/post?id ... nextnewest). Lapua also makes 30-06 brass!! AND the dies are available through www.shooters.com.au/categories.asp?cID=5759

Similar to a 280 Remington probably (???maybe longer neck???)

Dave & others

Yes Dave, I truly enjoyed Belmont and it was a good to meet you all :D

You are very much informed regarding the Tombi and your links are real.
The neck is little longer, correct and all you said is factual.
I have Technical advisers in the Protea group and can revert to them should there be need.
Due to my non technical posisiton this is what I can offer.

Just sitting here reloading for the club 6BR whilst occasionally glancing across to admire the new 180 hybrids and have come with a piece of useless trivia - - the hybrid is the same length (+/-) as a 6BR case! (Yes I know, I need professional help). :?

I feel your pain Alan.

I have Berger 155.5, Lapua Scenar, and HBC's all loaded, sitting here taunting me.

Current weather conditions, and time available means I cannot take them out to play.

:(
