New Stock

Post by Brad Y »

Heres a couple of pics of the stock im building for my remington f class gun.

Still a work in progress.

Since these pics I have shaped the fore end to angle up from the 3" wide bottom to the top. I have a bit more wood to take away from the butt as its still a bit too big and bulky. But the shape looks nice and is very low profile so should be stable in the bags.

I plan to finish with thestock in gloss black with a few coats of automotive clear at the end.

It looks like you are using some form of laminated ply.

brad,
you sure can make a nicer rear tang area with a rem, stolle, nesika, bat, than with a barnard.
and you get the right number of lugs as a bonus.

The wood is an imported hardwood laminate used for structural work. It's not standard LVL but a product called maxbeam.

This afternoon I finished shaping and using power tools on it, onto hand sanding with coarse paper. Will bed the v block when I return from holidays.

Will try to get some more pics up asap

Bruce,

Barnards are better value - they throw in a spare lug.

Nice work Brad, I'd like to get my hands on a piece of Maxbeam too. From Google searching its a building product so likely comes in roofing beam sized pieces ?

Hey guys

Go to a timber supply place where you would expect builders to get thier stuff.

Update

The stock has been pretty much finished. I have it sanded, sealed, primed and ready for painting. Just got to epoxy in a single shot follower then the paint goes on. Here are some pics from before priming. I unexpectedly had to use it the other week when I went to set up the other stock and realised I had already tinkered with the action screw length. Ended up using the stock with a cheap pipe saddle as a trigger guard and banged down a 58 straight up. It soon shut up those laughing at how agricultural it was!
