F Open at WA Queens.

Post by alocky »

Once again, that time is here. We've only just scraped enough F Open shooters together in the last two years to get the event listed. Fortunately we had interstate visitors to make up the numbers - but each time they took our pants down and wandered off with the prize - Thanks Alan and Dave :-)
I only know of one other guy from my club who's signed up for F Open. Any other takers on this forum?
cheers,
Andrew.

I will be shooting F-Open with my 308. Crazy I know but 155gr dont like my rifle much.

How many F-Open guys are for certain this year? This will be my first Queens :)

Well, so far that makes three. Unless we get 5 it won't happen. I can't seem to track down Mark H. who usually leads the way with the locals, either.
c'mon guys, I dont want have screw on the 30 cal barrel again!
cheers,
Andrew.

OK Andrew, I'm in. One of us might need a disguise and a second entry to make the 5 though  There have been a couple more people shooting open at Swanbourne on occasion so hopefully we will get at least one more competitor. BTW the City of Subi PM is the Sunday before so would be a good lead-in shoot.

regards

There is a hot shooting 6.5x47L that a guy has down here at busso, but I doubt he would be going to the queens and even if he was, my bet would be he would shoot his 223 and that would be it.

I don't think it's realistic to shoot both std and open, apart from interfering with scoring duties I imagine it would be sufficiently confusing to remember your squad ding details and sight settings for two rifles. Can you sabotage his std rifle ;-)?
There's a chap with a 6mmBR that shoots very well at Pickering Brook, I've been dripping away, but he hasn't come around yet. I might give my 6.5x47l another run, it did well two years ago.
Cheers,
Andrew.

Spoke to the bloke here today with the 6.5mm- I might be able to borrow it off him if he goes to shoot FS and that way can be the 5th FO shooter. Will have to sort the logistics etc out but the mrs said we can probably get to perth that weekend pending how the new baby goes.

Nope - all the disciplines are mixed up on the targets. I prefer it that way, to be honest, because you get to mix with all sorts of fellow shooters.
Brad - hope to see you there! Sounds like we might have enough competitors - I'll put my entry in this week.
cheers,
Andrew.

Yep should be good. I would be confident to take my 308 but I would need to work some loads with heavy bullets and I haven't got time. Wish my 260ai was already done but it won't be for a couple of months. Will get onto some practice with the 6.5 next weekend hopefully.

Brad,

Cheers for the offer mate. I have already asked another mate who has a NXS 5.5-22x50 if I can borrow that as his 300WM is in the smiths getting rebarreled so should be all good I hope. I'll let you know otherwise as that would be awesome.

Just out of interest, whats the Sightron like? Im thinking of getting the 8-32x50 LRMOA for my Omark for F-Class.

Its been very good mate. Tracking is brilliant so far. Another new shooter has a sightron on his barnard and it works well too. But I dont care for the mil dot reticle and i think his is 1/4 clicks . The fine crosshair and 1/8 target dot and the 1/8 clicks on mine is much better for targets but useless in the field if you want to take it hunting.

Oatesy's nightforce NXS died on him at Yarloop last weekend and he has sold his nightforces now and gone back to weavers. So now all our top 3 FS shooters down here have all made the move to weaver T24 or T36 scopes. One guys just put a 8-80 march on his 6.5x284 and its so amazing zooming up to 80 power and being able to see clearly. But it cost him over 4K and doesnt make his gun shoot any better.

If it helps I've got a spare 45x45 Leupold that works very nicely, that I'm happy to loan for the queens.
