I must say its been a long time since I have been on this forum, I have been looking for a 223 Omark, and can never find any advertised, I have came across a few 308's, this is a real blonde question - are the 223's made from the 308?? and how would I go about having one converted?? I really loved my old 223 Omark that I used to shoot target rifle with it was awesome
a .223 and a .308 are totally different beasts, one cannot be made into the other. To convert one of those .308's you have found to 223 will require a new barrel and also the smaller boltface to suit the case. Most gunsmiths should be able to help you out.
You could convert but as TOM said it's a new bolt face and barrel plus fitting. Will cost a fair bit. Unless you find a .308 that is already drilled/tapped for scope mounting, and is dirt cheap.
Or you bide your time and keep searching, post a wanted ad here, look on Used Guns. Eventually you will find what you want !
Hi Total Solutions Engineering (MAB) QLD do a full .223 Omark conversion kit, which has the bolt head and barrel with integral locking lugs. I ordered a barrel (1/8T X 28) in November and Veronca of TSE said they still make the kit. Think it was about 700. Grab youself a .308 and a conversion kit, should get out of it for 1K and it will be basically a new rifle. Less scope that is.
Cant wait to get mine shooting!
