Post by macguru »

I was wondering if anyone had tried 115 vld bergers in a 6BR 1 in 8 twist ?

I know the theory but i was wondering if anyone had tried it in reality and if it works. ?

Not in a 6BR, but I have tried it in 2 different 6x47 barrels in 8" twist. It didn't work well for me. It did not key hole, but I couldn't get any good accuracy out of it.

When it was warm weather (less dense air, more stability), the 115s were pretty good. As soon as it cooled down (very next Queens Prize), accuracy went down hill. It wasnt anything realy sudden, like key holing, missing targets, but accuracy wasnt great.
Short range shooters often say that with marginal stability, you go from great accuracy, not not hitting the target. In long range, it seems accuracy seems to drop off slightly just before the bullets start to tumble. I have seen this with my marginal twist 6.5 as well. With 140gn bullets, it is great in warm weather, but as soon as it gets cools and stability is marginal, it starts to show, then I have to switch to shorter bullets.
With 115s in an 8" twist, some people get them to work, but maybe they shoot in warm conditions or high altitude all the time.

I know a few people that have tried in faster rounds than a 6BR (6XC, 243AI etc) and no luck at all so I doubt a BR can do it - but as they say "you never know"
