Garth i can assure you as a member of the WRC that the everyone there will make you most welcome, may i also suggest you talk to Bill(president) or Keith for if you want to start reloading. Someone at the club may even be selling a rifle for upgrading untill then the club rifle still shoots very acuratly

Just make sure you turn up at the Werribee Rifle Club and not the Werribee Zoo. The welcome might not be so warm otherwise. :lol:

I sent an email to the guys at the Werribee club and haven't received any response... However one of the guys from the Geelong club got back to me straight away, so i'm going to check out their club on Saturday and have a shot.

Is there some rivalry between the clubs? I wouldn't want to piss off Werribee as it's actually closer to my place and may be the club I join.

Clubs aren't necessarily in attendance of their email or even phone every day, but more likely a couple of times a week. I think you would be safe to assume the information, from dare I say the webpage:
http://www.werribeerifleclub.com/visitors.htm and combine that with the events calendar http://www.werribeerifleclub.com/events_calendar.htm

stu_bear2002 might also have some more formal contacts, or even the VRA to assist new members.

Sorry, that last post may have sounded a bit smartarsed.

I didn't expect immediate replies from the club... But I also didn't want to assume it would be ok to rock up on a comp day and expect to be shown around... So I wanted to get confirmation from the club before I came out.

Went out to Geelong today to have a crack, I absolutely loved it. I shot a 53 of 600yds and a 56 off 300yds... Pretty pleased with that for a first attempt.

The guys out there were great and made me feel very welcome. I'll be getting right into this soon I think.

I just need to get my head around click adjustments, and work on focussing with one eye, I found I shot better when I had both eyes open... But i'm sure this isn't the right way to shoot.

Keep them both open if you can,it is far better.

When you shoot with one eye open and the other closed, you have two sets of muscles working against each other, one set keeping one eye open and the other shut. What happens is that the eye ball of the open eye gets compressed ever so slightly, changing its shape and the focus. Next time you are at the range have a look at the TR guys and you might see some of them shooting with a blind or similar device for the off-side eye. I shoot with a shooting hat that has sides that fold down, placing these sides and the front of the hat over the back of the scope, the left side being the blind and the right side the focussing side.
