Load Date 6.5 x 47

Post by TTBS28 »

Hi All,

Have just purchased a couple of boxes of Berger 140VLD Target projies to try in my 6.5 x 47. Have been using 130VLD's for awhile with 2209 powder and CCIBR4 primers - have had reasonable results but thought the 140's may be a little better at the longs - don't know but think it is worth a try. Has anybody had any experience with these? Would appreciate any starting load details or experiences that you are prepared to provide?

Thanks.........Jeff. Roberts.

Try around 37gr of 2208. Ive tryed them and didnt see any gain over the 130 bergers but your barrel may be different.

I never worked up a load with the 140s and 2209 but it might be worth a try.

I used to run 38.0gr of 2208 with 139gr Scenars for 2920fps.

Just beware I had pressure signs at 37.5gr 2208 and 130's jammed. Each barrel is different maybe start a little lower and look up. This load seemed fine but on a warm day and lots of rounds down the barrel in a prize shoot there were a few marks on the cases from the ejector plunger.

Jeff,
I used to run just over 40 grains 2209 with cci 450 primers with the 140 class (chasing the 2820 mark but you may need a drop tube/ compressed load to get there). VLDs work with a light jam in nearly all the barrels I have seen.. But I found better velocity spread and ultimately long range success by running 2208 and BR2 and 123-130 class projectiles like most others with this cartridge. The 130 at around 2950-3000 is a very nice load.

However each barrel is different so it is worth a try.

Thanks Guys. Appreciate your efforts to get me informed and have noted the advice. SA Queens is coming up in a couple of weeks so, for now, will concentrate my efforts on the 123's and 130's until then. Will do a couple of ladder tests with loads suggested when the dust settles later in October.

Regards.............Jeff. R.

Jeff my go to load is 40.5gr of 2209 behind a 130gr berger and cci br4 primer jammed .010". It has worked well for me and others straight off the bat giving competitive accuracy and good brass life.

Id b surprised if you cant find a half decent load between 40 and 41.5gr of 2209 with a 130
