F-Class Scope Choice

Gents,

As you may have seen, my Sightron SIII 10-50x60 has failed and needs to be sent away to be fixed. I have borrowed a Weaver T36 for the mean time.

At this stage I'm unsure if I will keep the Sightron as my main scope. My confidence in it has shaken and I have thought that's its a lot for a scope to have at only $1000. So I'm wondering what scope many are using for F-Class and also perhaps Long Range BR if you shoot that aswell.

I am currently think of either the new 2014 NF Competition of perhaps running two Weaver T-Series scopes, T24 for long range and Heavy mirage conditions and a T36 for short range and Good conditions at long range. I can get two Weavers for much less then a NF scope and it is my thought that being such simple scopes, the chance of failure would be less. Many of the top FS shooters here in WA use Weavers as they have had NF and alike fail and have gone back to 'ole Faithful' as it is and they do very well with them.

Also keep in mind that I also shoot 500M Fly competitions so any scopes have to be suitable for that competition aswell.

How about a Vortex?

Most of my scopes are Vortex and Sightron.

As far as I'm aware, there isn't any high mag vortex acooes out. I'm looking for around 40 max power if not better.

I shoot NF BRs & Leupold VXIIIs for various reasons, but I'm impressed with that new NF comp. One of our standard guys has one.

I use the NF 8-32 with boost to 12-42 spec to give me enough wiggle room for places like Campbell Town & lower Light when the wind comes up. The 12 is a tad short of adjustment. I like the parallax adjustment on the front bell - seems to be less flaky than the side adjustments. However I can set it up for F class or Match Rifle, not both as far as my comfort goes.

The VX3s (boosted again) give me enough wind & elevation to run from 100 to 1200 yards with a rail with enough tip on it so that the mechanical (maybe optical) centre coincides with 1100 yards. That's worked so far. However, you seemingly can adjust for parallax or focus, not both, unless you buggarise around with the crosshair focus each range, I clear for parallax & to hell with a bit of fuzziness.

Quick, my fave scope is the March 10-60x-52. Its light weight and works perfectly with bright and clear optics. I also use NightForce, Weaver and Sightron scopes but the March is pretty special.

The new competition NF would also be a good choice and the new version with the 10moa/turn turrets and large target knobs should be available soon.

Once you get your Sightron back it will probably not cause you another problem. The repair people seem to do a pretty good job!
