Berger 223 80 grn vld seating depth

Post by richmac »

Hi All
Has anyone on this site had a crack at using 223 Berger 80 Grn VLD projectiles.
I am thinking that they should run well with it being jammed into the lands?
I would appreciate any info.
Thanks in advance Rich

Dont be afraid to jump them either. 40 thou jump sometimes works with VLD's. Found a 6.5x47L loved 130's jumped 40 thou and now my 284S is liking them jumped 40 as well, though Im still playing with it a little.

Find the powder charge your rifle likes and then take three lots of ammo to the range, 10 jam, 10 jump and 40 jump. Shoot at a long range club day at same distance and that should tell you what your rifle prefers. Then fine tune it from there. Could have to go 10 thou either way of one of those. Only way your gonna know is to test at the longs.

Jumping means less room for powder!

True Scott, but no point in adding more powder if it isnt accurate. Once again, accuracy remains key over velocity. Maybe easier to try a faster burning powder if you have so much bullet in the case that it robs it of capacity.

Brad

What lead angle are you running with in your 6.5x47L and 284S?

The 6.5x47L wasnt mine, however the 284S is the same as my 260 improved, both 1 degree 30. The 260 likes them jammed, the 284 jumped.
