Re: Clean rods
I have been using Dewey rods for years, plus their brushes.
I always use mine with a finger on the actual rod to make sure that it is turning.
A bit of lube in the bearings occasionally is a must.
They seem to be the best, but, after reading "the death of a good barrel" I took particular note when cleaning today and as per my comment in that thread, Polygonal rifling. Normal rifling poses no problems, BUT.........
Cleaning my Pacnor Polygonal rifled barrel, I found that the rod was not spinning, even with a new bronze brush fitted.
This is something that I will need to watch from now on.
Even with a 4X2 patch on the Parker Hale jag, it only rotated one way, and, that was when it was going back from muzzle to bore guide.
Will be reviewing cleaning process on this particular barrel.

Hi Ben.
It is only showing this peculiarity with the Pacnor Polygonal rifling.
I will not be changing my cleaning methods with any of my other 'conventional land' barrels.
As I clean Bryce's rifle, and it is still winning,(see Mudgee OPM results for their Easter Shoot) and, it now has over 7500 rounds(at least) down the tube, it must be working.
He would have possibly been shooting this rifle and barrel in the Country under 25's, and, that goes back awhile.
It is only the Pacnor that I am thinking of changing the cleaning method as it is too good a barrel to stuff up.
The brushes do not appear to engage with this type of rifling and so are just sliding down the tube.
May be just a 'patch and soak' cleaning, or, I still have a few cans of Milfoam.

Ray.
