John,
It must be a typo by Cam.
Given the cash prizemoney handed out at North Arm for Ranges and Daily Aggs, I think he is telling very big porkies :D [-X :D

Bindi2 - familiar with trolling much?

Tony/Cam/Julie,

I'd be interested to know if Julie
  1. made any vertical adjustments during the string;
  2. made any vert/horizontal zero adjustments for the gusting head-wind knowing it's most likely to push the shot down on average with a little L&R (all be it that fickle North Arm range layout and it's wind profile);
  3. did she try and use the sighters to shoot the on and off gust condition; and
  4. in hindsight would she (or other wind coaches) have bumped the elevation up by a 1/4MOA and why or based on what?

I've got a feeling you probably could have given Julie a 22LR on the day and she still would have held a waterline like that, well done!

Aaron, we will have to wait for Julie to answer all of your Questions, coz I sure cant. I know from the photos that her first sighter was an X and the second was a six............and this was the range that Mark Fairbairn shot a 46-3....so she wisely didn't cut them !!
Then shot 3 was the 5 to the Left. Hopefully they will be home shortly and she might get a chance to tell us.
I "think" she doesn't get much computer time at home though, because there is often some other bloke on line all of the time. :-$ :-$

I like how Julie tried to avoid the X ring and run around the bottom of it............ we'll blame Cams loads, I reckon she would have done it otherwise!!

I guess it should also be stressed how BAD the mirage was...especially at the 400 on Saturday. There was ZERO chance of a clear focused picture and the hazed image that we did get was constantly rolling around the lens.

Aaronraad The sentence 9 in the middle is wrong there is only 4 Xs. My second post acknowledges the good water line. If you don't train for the X ring you don't win which I also mentioned. I did not mention the conditions I shot in on Saturday when high 40s were there and low 50s won with very low X ring count. TR shooters did much better than any F class. I will also add that type of water line is not uncommon where I shoot in all F Classes.

G day Aaron

No vertical adjustments were made during the string. The scope in use was 1/4moa so Julie erred on the side of caution.
The changes were not consistant during the string. Anyone who has shot at North Arm will be familiar with this. :shock:
Looking at the group now,1/4 min up would have been a good option, maybe.

These are Julie's comments, I am just the slave :mrgreen:

Hey Cam, I will give you some tips for free.
Just increase the load by .3gn, that will move the group up to the centre.
If that doesn't work, just get her to pull the trigger a bit harder which will increase the moment of inertia or centre of gravity or increase positive compensation or something to move the group up a little.
:wink:

I thought the most obvious solution would be to give the underside of the barrel a clout with a REALLY BIG hammer. Might take a couple of blows but you'll get the group up.......

Yes people really do forget the benefit of pulling the trigger harder, particularly at the longs.

Also if you run a longer butt you can put it under your shoulder and put some weight on the rear end of the rifle so it lifts the other end up a bit. Simple things people can do.

Denis- the hammer is a problem. Too much hitting and you could make the bore flat so the bullets might come out flatter and have less surface area exposed to cross winds. I think you might be subject to a protest with that one.

On a serious note, until I read about the weather conditions and the fact that it shot a cloverleaf at 500, I was thinking it is like some barrels I have actually seen. These barrels/loads shot some awesome waterline groups but always seemed to be a wide flat group, not a tidy little bug hole. I am as guilty as most with trying to chase vertical, but end up with a load which is either super sensitive in the wind, or just groups in a horizontal pattern.

Now Rod which one of my comments did you not think I was being serious about?! :roll:

Yes agree with that observation, my last 260 barrel shot an early detail on a still day all flat across the target. No wind to speak of. Adjusted seating depth a bit more and it fixed it.

Weather was rough Rod. Real washing machine type stuff. Pickups and dropoffs were rapid.
Someone else who was there may explain it better.
Julie shot a 60.7 at 300, the previous range, in easier conditions.
It shot a 60.9 at 600yds with load development.

I might test the rifle's harmonics with a large hammer though.
I could try this with the rifle too: http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/201 ... ture-test/ :shock:
