Benchrest stock for HOWA 1500 .223

Post by bshrestha01 »

I am working on building a .223 for F-Standard for shorter ranges (up to 600 meters).

I have managed to acquire a HOWA 1500 in .223 without a stock.

I am looking to put up a benchrest type stock in it. I did a google search and came up with a whole lot of noise on hunting stocks so not getting specific target shooting answers. Can somebody please point me to the right direction?

PS: my budget is not very high, approx $300.00

Yeh and this is not the benchrest answer you want either http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/ProductDe ... e-finished
But what it has going for it, it is laminated so heavyish, almost non compressible but maybe need pillars and skim bedding, virtually ready to go. Just needs a rod fitted for the bag rider.

I had a look at it but I am looking for something with a flatter base to shoot off a Caldwell rest.

I found one of Bell and Carlson but I have no idea what the cost is like and I found a McMillan stock but it is way beyond my budget (especially given the falling AUD).

I am running a howa in a B&C stock. While its not perfect, it has a flat forend, a high comb and a full alloy bedding block. Its the vert grip varmint/tactical stock version. About $400 locally and you can buy direct from the importer.

That should teach you - don't rely too much on technology. :D

Yes, I had a look at their website and they looked good. I had a look at McMillan stocks as well. They look good but they are a bit out of budget for me. :(

Have you looked at GRS stocks? They do one to suit a Howa inlet.

The GRS F-Class looks like the one I was thinking about. Thanks.

I have sent an email to NIOA. Hopefully they are inside my budget.

From what you have said, I doubt the GRS will be in your budget. But please let us know how you go with your query to Noia.

Here is a reply from Nioa:

Code: Select all

Unfortunately we are unable to assist you. GRS have discontinued the F Class stock from their line up and we can no longer obtain them. Nioa also does not have one of these stock on hand to supply. The replacement for the F Class Stock is the Kelby X eater model. Nioa currently have one of these stock available to suit your rifle and the product code for this stock is: GRS102206.

So I called my local gunshop and they are looking at $970 for the Kelby X Eater.

I think I have to drop down to the B&C stock. I have asked the gunshop guys if they can give me a price. Waiting to hear back from them.

I got the exact same thing for the exact same price in my local gun shop. I think I will give my business to my local gun shop.
