One of the advantages of a 30mm sight that most shooters enjoy is being able to see the target numbers while on aim. Personally I prefer the sight picture of a 30mm tube, this is why I haven't bothered making a 22mm sight. However optics is a very personal thing so each to their own.

Oh man now I'm confused I just assumed bigger was better. I was hopping to get all my gear sorted before I set foot on a range. I guess I had better get to a range and see what I can see better with. I will post up a pic of the rifle tomorrow..

Does any one know which is more likely to have more people shooting fullbore. Werribee club or geelong club. They are probably the closest 2

Can't answer about Werribee but Peter Hulett has said that he and Carol are the only TR shooters left at Geelong. You should also consider the pros and cons of shooting indoors through a tunnel. What about Bacchus Marsh?

Macca,
I think it is not which club has more TR shooters but which club will help you more and provides the most pleasant environment for you. Geelong, Werribee and Bacchus Marsh are all quite different clubs and I would suggest you spend at least one Saturday at each before you make a final decision.

I planned to visit both once I have my rifle set up but if I'm trying to have a look at equipment and get advise then more is probably better. I expect I will end up at werribee. The reason being I am starting this endeavour is to improve my wind reading ability on a military range where there are no wind flags. I ruled out bachas marsh for the fact that I expect being on a Ridgeline the wind will be very different there. I have all but ruled out geelong as well because shooting indoor and learning to read the flags that aren't on a military range is probably no where near as good either. The biggest advantage there is no buts party and I could still go and shoot pistols the same day. So that leaves me werribee and maybe stawell if I was willing to drive a little further. I will go to a range tomorrow and have a look around and ask some questions

My problem might be partly fixed. I realised the rear sight had a detachable sunshade and I can get it lower with it off.

Macca, you'll probably find that you will get glare off the rail if you remove the shade tube, especially with the rear sight down so low. I have a very similar situation. So I have raised my rear sight 10moa to clear the rail, but I have the luxury of an adjustable height front sight, so I have shifted it 10moa to compensate. It works well for me. The adjustable front sight is easy to remove when I want to shoot with a scope. You would need to verify that you can raise your rear sight enough for 1000y without maxing out the rear sight. You also may not like the extra height at 1000y with out an adjustable cheek piece on your stock. Maybe your best option is to remove the rail for TR work. I have a Davies rail on one of my rifles that I bedded with JB-weld and I can refit it quickly with no noticeable change to my zero.
