Hi All Over winter we have been playing with different ways to loose weight in FTR. It doesn't take long to creep up to the magical 8.25kg. A different scope or Barrel or Bipod and before you know it you are over. I was wondering about getting a heavier profile Barrels but to do this would place us over. We run Dolphin Bipods so they are light at around 550gms. So the next place to look l thought was the stock. I have looked at the Carbon Fiber option before but due to a lack of info or availability never went through with it. But now I have decided to give them a go. One of the reasons in the past for not going down this path was that the harmonics in these type of stocks was a bit hit and miss. After some homework I decided to try a Bolly Stock. They should understand about vibrations and harmonics as they are in the Aviation Buisness. So it arrived today and just dropped the Barnard straight in It. The Inletting was done by Jerome Ziersch and a top job to. So instead of trying to loose weight I now have the option of being able to put it on .
yep I think those stocks are going to be a game changer in FTR!
The few samples I've played with have been really high quality, well finished piece of technology and topped off with some ziersch handiwork it would be hard to beat.
did you get Jeromes 3" forend f class open profile or use one of bollys other styles?
Hi Batattack It's one of Jerome's the finish is excellent. I think that the technology that Bolly has used will filter through. I am more than happy with our other stocks just thought I would try something different.
How much weight did it lose and what stock were you using before? Im interested to know how it handles also. I had a look at the bolly stocks at shot show in Melbourne earlier this year and they look like a good thing.
Hi Jase PTRC We have a couple of Laminated Fclass Stocks and they work fantastic no problem with them.They are Just over 2kg. The Bolly stock with V Block Takedown screws LimbSaver and Trigger Guard same as our other stocks 1.245 KG so we save about 755 gms.

I think the blanks alone only weigh about 800gr so if you had an action that didn't require a v block and used a trimmed down trigger guard they are pretty light overall. they could have been lighter but i think Jerome advised bolly to make some areas more rigid.
they aren't "cheap" when you just compare it to a laminate blank but by the time you have a laminate blank final finished and painted etc etc and you add up the total cost the carbon fiber opting isn't bad considering the technology and weight.
I'd like to see a thumb hole with a weight system at the back so you can use one stock for ftr, fs and fo and have a competitive and balanced rifle for all classes if needed and I think the weight system at least is in the works.
Yes that is about right with the weight. Out mould weight 884 gms. Finished weight 1249.5. I think a way of adding or decreasing weight would be a good way to go. Batattack you must be close to the action as you are very well informed. I might have to pick your brain Thanks Michael H
Thanks fellas im looking at options for my first build, thats a considerable saving over the old stock definitely worth a look. How is the balance over all?
Hi Mike like you l don't know if it dose give better scores I often wonder if heavier profile barrels shoot better than the others. I have a 1 and 1/4 fluted 6.7x47 and while l know this is not compering apples with apples. But the heavier Profile barrel with the Weight over the front makes it behave a lot better than others I have used.But it gives us the option of going a heavier barrel or bipod or barrel tuner. If given a choice I would go a heavier Profile over a lighter one but that has no scientific backing just a personell preference. We use Dolphin Bipods and they work fantastic. But this stock dose give us a oppertunity to use other Bipods as well. On it ATM is a Davies FTR Bipod and they are fantastic. But with our other stock we wouldn't of had that option.
