Re: Scope Suggestions

I was looking for a scope that would cover both field (falling plate) out to a 1000m as well as being somewhere in the pack when doing F Class. Due to ruggedness (if thats the word) I was looking at the NXS 8x32 but reading this post makes me think I should look at the NF Competition. Question is, is the competition as durable as the NXS and rugged enough to use away from an establish range?

I have a couple of NXS 8 - 32x scopes as well as March.
The NXS are great scopes and built like tanks into the bargain

The new Sightron SV 10-50x60 is worth considering IMO. Took a look at one of these the other day and was very impressed, it's the most solidly built Sightron available and the new oversized locking turrets are pretty neat, as it the fine focus adjustment for the parallax. I'm very happy with my Sightron 8-32x56 but I'll definitely be upgrading to the SV next year.

Hi Cameron,

I have both scopes.

The Competition would be great for 1000yd shoots, but it has a very fine cross hair and would not probably suit falling plate. Also it has 1/8 clicks and no illumination (if that's important for you). The glass also seems a bit better than the NSX, but that might me.

The NSX is more rugged, heavier and because of the thicker cross hairs, is easier to sight with quickly. I if you have 1/4 clicks, easier to crank from one range to another. I use NSX for all ranges from 100m out to 1200yards and it can easily quarter the super V at all ranges.

For just 1000yd shoots, the Competition would be the pick.
For just Falling Plate, the NSX would be the pick.

If I had to tick both requirements boxes, I'd go NSX.

I also have a Sightron on my .223 F-Standard rifle. It's fussy on head position so may not be ideal for Falling Plate IMHO. But it certainly can do both, and at half the price of a NSX. A good choice if funds are tight.

Hope this helps,

Alan
