115gr 6mm VLDs
Hmm, says they should work in my 7 3/4 twist bartlein..... will have a go at hornsby on wednesday. looks like warm and elevated is better than cold and sea level

I'll be trying them in a 6mm SLR later in the year hopefully. Just having issues trying to obtain a left hand chassis, everythig else is good to go.
Re: 115gr 6mm VLDs
I use the Sierra 115gn projectile sold as a D-Tac and it shoots quite well in a 7.75T barrel. I reckon a 7.5T would be better. Using them in a Norma XC case.

Re: 115gr 6mm VLDs
I'm planning on giving them a go in a 1:8 6x47L as that's all I have left. Marginally unstable so they might fall over at the longs a bit, on the other hand at the shorts it might reduce any dispersion caused by any jacket thickness inconsistencies.
Re: 115gr 6mm VLDs
I believe a number of shooters have tried the 8T barrel using 115gn Bergers without success and gave the idea away as there are many other good options for a 6mm.

Re: 115gr 6mm VLDs
thanks for the heads up, I won't load many up and if initial results are average or worse then I won't persist.

Where did you buy the DTAC's from?
Re: 115gr 6mm VLDs
Imported from US by my dealer, he may have some in stock if interested and you have the right barrel twist. GAS

Re: 115gr 6mm VLDs
I did shoot the 115's for a while. According to my twist calc's they needed a 1-7.7 min. if memory serves me correctly. I made my barrel a 1-7.5 twist. Didn't want to be on the ragged edge. Gun shot great.
I tried the DTAC's previously in a 1-8 twist and was pushing them 3130fps. I could get the 105's to shoot in the .3's but the 115 DTAC's the groups went right away to 1 moa or bigger again going off of memory but my gut feeling was the twist wasn't going to be fast enough and it showed. The Dtac's where a older lot and I didn't care for the consistency in the plastic tip on the bullets either. Maybe the newer ones are better?
Also I feel the 115 Berger's vary to much or to temperamental from lot to lot. One lot would hold 1/3moa at a 1k yards and another lot I couldn't do any better than 3/4moa at a 1k. Same powder, same cases, same lot of primers etc...and at the time when I switched to a different lot the barrel had just over 500 rounds on it. Same thing showed at short range as well.
I dropped back to 105-107gr. bullets and 1-8 twist barrels for the most part with the exception of the 6 Dasher I'm doing on a Rem. 40x action right now. That one is going to be a 1-7.75 twist barrel but still will only be shooting the 105-107gr. bullets.

Re: 115gr 6mm VLDs
preliminary tests in the 1 in 7 3/4 bartlein were fine. They were grouping a little better than the 105s at the moment which started to give some funny elevations after the barrel had done 100 rounds or so. i probably have the jam wrong.
for the 115s
I tried a few warm loads of 2209 and at 20 deg celsius, 200m elevation and 3000 fps there were no shots out of, say, a 1/2 moa circle at 300m. (with one group about 1") I am going to try 41-42gr 2213 sc at 600m today, but then testing will have to wait for a couple of weeks.

Re: 115gr 6mm VLDs
115gn Dtacs, I have experimented with 105's & 108gn prodjies with 2209 powder and they all hammer with the XC case.
Frank quoted he used Dtacs with plastic tip, I never had those, but my Dtacs are only a few years old which are Sierra made. I think the 115gn Bergers have a smaller bearing surface which may causes issues at longer range with 8T or even 7.75T barrels that's why i think the 7.5 T would be my next barrel to try.

Re: 115gr 6mm VLDs
oh, that makes more sense, we calculated a max load between 41-42gr 2213sc but i am shooting the 6x47 lapua case , NOT the 6xc. It just shows how careful you have to be with this stuff,..... it may be in practice that i can go higher but thats where i will start !

Re: 115gr 6mm VLDs
ok the load was fine but there was the odd shot out of group so i think i will stick to the 105grs. I have some hybrids and will give them a run .....
