Spotting Scope for Target Rifle

Post by scott/r »

Now, I know we've got a section for target rifle discussions, but seeing as most of you guys used to shoot target rifle I thought I'd stick it here.
My question is how much importance would you put on a good spotting scope compared to a cheap e-bay job. Am I better off saving my money on a scope and spending it else were, or do I stop bullshitting to myself and just buy a decent scope?

Buy a good spotting scope. I believe the new Pentax is a beaut for seeing mirage.

I'll second what Old Trev said, give Shane or Dave Mac a call at CRM Gunsports in Cairns, they've got some awesome Pentax spotting scopes, really top notch, the trick with them is the eye pieces.

I was fortunate enough today to pick up a second hand kowa tsn1 off one of the guys at the range. Boy, I see what you guys are saying about a decent scope. It's an older scope but in bloody good condition with even better glass in it. It's amazing what I haven't been looking at with the old clunker that I have been using.
Thanks for your input guys.

Not wrong about how good it is. I wound it up to 60x and could see the bullet holes at 400 yrd on the electronic targets. I couldn't get the money out fast enough.

Yep. That way if he changes his mind and comes back to t/r he doesn't have to go far to get his gear back. Price adjusted for storage fees of coarse. haha
