G'day all,
Anyone running the 180gr SMK in their 7mms? Thinking of trying them due to cost from reloading international. Any feedback would be awesome.

Re: Sierra 7mm 180gr SMK
G'day Quick,
I am running them in my 280AI. I have absolutely no complaints.
I have to batch them on Base to Ogive. One batch of 500 had a very distinct group of 3 different lengths. But the next batch of 800 had 600+ that were all within 2 thou. with the rest within +/- 25 thou.
They shoot very similar to the 180 Berger Hybrids that I also used.
Last 5 shoots have been all possibles at 600 and 700m. They have also done a 300.29 @ 300m (ISSF).
Cheers,
Phil

Phil,
Whats the pressures like compared to the 180gr Berger VLD?

Re: Sierra 7mm 180gr SMK
I have not noticed any difference in pressure sign between the SMK or the Berger Hybrids. I have not tried the VLDs.
I did notice that the upper node was showing a bit of flattening of the primers, so I went back down to the lower node, but, this was happening on both projectiles.
Cheers,
Phil

Luke Skywalker is no match for your rifle at the moment Phil. You've got that thing shooting like the death star taking down tatooine.

I just wish I could shoot in a vacuum, then I wouldn't have to worry about that pesky wind....
Re: Sierra 7mm 180gr SMK
A few of us have tried them up here and found we can pretty well substitute them for the Berger. I have coached Marty through a shoot where he changed mid stride and we stayed n the 6 ring at 1000. I have seen some excellent long range grouping from them in 1000 yard BR and F class.
Price is the issue - being a bit more than the Bergers.
Just be aware - importing from the states should see you around the retail prices here, as a guide someone just did some Berger 180 VLD and cost them around $1.00 landed.
